Foremans Relocatable Building systems is looking to expand its stocks of pre-owned modular buildings, and therefore will buy, remove and recycle good quality single- or multi-storey accommodation that is surplus to clients' requirements. This situation gives organisations a sustainable, fast and cost-effective method of disposing of their excess accommodation. Foremans is thought to be the UK's largest purchaser of pre-owned modular buildings, removing over 1,000 steel-framed modules from sites every year. Demand for its building services continues to increase, says the firm. The recycling and refurbishment of modular buildings is "now recognised as one of the most sustainable methods of construction" says Foremans. It reduces the volume of waste sent to landfill and in preserving the structural elements of a a building, importantly saves embodied energy. Foremans will undertake a full site survey and evaluation, free of charge anywhere in the UK. It will remove the building to an agreed programme and with the "minimum disruption". The dismantling of modular buildings is classed as demolition under CDM legislation, and the client has a legal obligation to ensure the work is being carried out by a competent firm.
