It is claimed to be the first tile to feature the handling and installation advantages of a wet felt mineral tile - as opposed to low density mineral or glass wool - and provides performance characteristics previously unavailable in this material. Available with both square and recessed edges Thermatex Alpha is aimed at locations where the highest performance of acoustics is required.In addition to achieving claimed high levels of performance it is said to offer excellent asethetics, with a white, smooth design, affording 80% light reduction in a 600 x 600 mm format It can also be specified with the Hygena treatment to suit areas where a higher degree is required.

New name for ceiling giant

AMF Ceilings Ltd New name for ceiling giantOne of Europe's leading ceiling system manufacturers has changed its name. AMF Ceilings was acquired by construction materials and ceiling system provider Knauf in 2003 but retained its name. However, the company recently decided to rebrand, calling itself Knauf AMF to 'reflect the group status'. Since the acquisition there has been ?33 million investment into a state-of-the-art plant and headquarters in Bavaria. Stuart Brown, sales manager for the UK, said: "The combination of AMF and Knauf will underpin our success and add impetus to innovation, increased capacity and status."

Hygiene kicks in at Wembley

AMF Ceilings Ltd Hygiene kicks in at WembleyInstalled within the kitchens at the new Wembley Stadium is a hygiene ceiling from AMF Ceilings. Thermaclean is a white vinyl foil laminated mineral tile with a durable washable finish and Bio-Pruf surface treatment making it resistant to bacteria and fungi. The product was recommended as it met the required hygiene standards and was cost effective. It was installed on a 1200mm by 600mm non-clip grid system to enable easy access to the ceiling void and offers fire protection to BS 476: parts 20-23.

Dublin. The Thermatex mineral board tile exceeds building requirements for fire protection, sound absorption and sound attenuation. In this application it was laid onto an exposed grid system, enabling individual panels to be removed for access to services.

Schools reach acoustic clarity

AMF Ceilings Ltd Schools reach acoustic clarityPart of a PFI schools project in Rotherham, acoustic tiles from AMF Ceilings have been installed in 15 of the areas schools to achieve the necessary acoustic levels. The company's Thermacoustic dB ceiling systems are being installed in a number of areas including kitchens, classrooms, music rooms, drama rooms and a gymnasium. The systems were specified as a result of SRL (Sound Research Laboratories) tests, which found that the product met BB93 requirements in terms of both sound absorbtion and sound insulation.
