Redecoration for a historic building in Dartmouth, Devon, has been carried out using Sikkens opaque woodcare products from Akzo Nobel Woodcare. The maintenance of York House takes place every five years, and on this occasion it was decided to use Sikkens Cetol BL Opaque for all the exterior joinery detailing. This included the doors, windows and cladding to the timber frame building. The product is a water-based alkyd/acrylic, opaque coating, giving durability and protection for the timber. This was an essential issue for the river-front location of the building, where the salt environment can cause premature flaking and discolouration of painted timber.
As part of its 5 yearly maintenance cycle, the external timber on Aeron Court in Gilfach, Wales, has been coated with Sikkens Cetol Novatech and Cetol Novatop system. The system is a high solids, low solvent, two coat system designed for low application costs. Formulated using micronised iron oxide pigments, it protects from the effects of sunlight and weathering.
