Boards take on Scots Climate

Barony Gate, a new housing development close to Glasgow city centre is combining traditional building skills with modern technology by using Alumasc render. The buildings were primarily finished in Alumasc's M.R.S5 dashing render, a tough, hard wearing and long-lasting traditional product that the manufacturer claims said to be ideally suited to developments of this type.
The developers chose to be bold and opted for Alumasc's Silkolitt special lightweight render in a bright shade of blue for a number of the panels. Silkolitt is a resin based coating with an attractive 'rolled' texture and high level water-repellent qualities combined with high water-vapour permeability.
This development in the Anniesland district is a new mixed housing project by local developer Mactaggart and Mickel. These developers turned to Alumasc, said to be a market leading exterior building specialist, to supply an external weatherproof coating capable of withstanding the extremes of the Scottish climate.
Alumasc maintains that these strongly contrasting panels provide a harmonious and visually pleasing continuity throughout the development, and that they appropriately bring a sense of sophistication and individuality to each of the buildings. Moreover, it claims, it results in a housing project of considerable architectural merit in a part of Glasgow that is seen as a desirable place to live.
