An insulated roof and wall system that comes complete with guarantees for specifiers and building owners has been launched by Arval from Arcelor Construction UK. The Fidelite twin-skin roof and wall system provides a single source of supply for a non-fragile roof or wall assembly with a range of guaranteed U-values for compliance with building regulations. Fidelite comprises a profiled outer sheet and accessories.

Arval steel roofing and cladding materials from Arcelor has been specified for the first school due for completion under Bristol's Building Schools for the Future Programme. Long span structural trays are used internally, and specialist flat façades externally at Bristol Brunel College (pictured).

A BBA-approved structural metal roof lining system which handles the dual-edged sword of architects' and contractors' requirements is available from Arcelor Construction. For architects, the Arval Tactray 90 tile and slate support system enables them to free up internal spaces that would otherwise be cluttered with bracing systems. Contractors will benefit from the metal system being 25% quicker to install than a traditional timber rafter-based construction. Buildings can be made water-tight in super quick time, saving on work force costs. Lightweight but inherently strong and available perforated to optimise acoustic performance, Tactray 90 is ideally placed to meet the trend for bigger commercial and retail buildings, being capable of spanning up to 3,600mm under normal load conditions. The Arval system does not affect tiling as all other installation remains identical.

When faced with designing open-plan offices and large spaces such as sports halls, anything that allows for long ceiling spans must answer many architects' prayers. Arcelor Construction UK supplies the world's largest range of metal decks to provide structural support for lightweight roof systems such as built-up metal, standing seam or single-ply membrane. With spans of up to 9,800mm under normal conditions, the Arval decks negate the need for secondary steelwork and permanent bracing (as part of a property engineered solution) to give uncluttered sightlines, and ultimate design flexibility.

Steel roofing and cladding supplier Arcelor UK sprang into action when a customer urgently needed to replace a roof on a storm damaged supermarket. High winds ripped the aluminium sheet off the newly-completed store in Chester depositing it in the car park. Following a Sunday morning telephone call to Arcelor's managing director the company confirmed it was able to supply the material without delay. Arcelor supplied roofing contractor Blackwell Stanistreet with its Arclad R34 profiled steel sheeting to replace the lightweight aluminium which had been destroyed. The first sheet was supplied on Tuesday and both roofs were installed within just 12 days.

Promfire composite panels from Arcelor Construction were specified for their fire resistance and face-lifting capabilities at Wembley Retail Park. Situated directly opposite the new critically acclaimed national stadium the retail park has been remodelled by developer The Junction Limited Partnership as part of a masterpaln to regenerate this part of north west London.

A high performance, colour coated steel building envelope with 'exceptional guarantees' has been launched by Arval, part of the Arcelor Group, to help specifiers and contractors manage risk and budget restraints. AR200XP is said to combine durability, resistance to corrosion and colour retention with guarantees of up to 30 years for roofing and cladding applications. It does not need annual maintenance inspections and has no reductions for orientation.

Fire resistant composite panels from Haironville TAC's Promfire range have won LPCB certification to LPS1208. The panels passed tests to demonstrate their ability to resist fire from both directions. Different panel thicknesses and fixing regimes were tested to provide resistance for up to two hours. Fire performance is based on the product's rockwool mineral insulation which is sandwiched between two coated steel facings.

Certification to LPS1208 on fire resistance requirements, for elements of construction used to provide compartmentation, has been obtained by Haironville TAC's range of Promfire composite wall panels. The products are a range of panels comprising of rock mineral wool insulation sandwiched between two steel facings. In order to achieve LPCB Certification, the panels had to undergo tests on a range of different panel thicknesses and fixing regimes, with proof that they were resistant for up to two hours. Manufactured from non-combustible components, they have also been tested to the latest European fire standards.
