Floors set for retirement

ardex has worked alongside Midlands tiling specialists, Telling (Finishings) Ltd of Mansfield, to help in the development of the UK’s largest retirement village in Nottingham. To commence the 14,000 m² project, Telling prepared the floors areas with Ardex K 301 Exterior Self-Smoothing Levelling and Resurfacing Compond. Ardex K 301 is ideal for smoothing and levelling, when mixed with water a fluid mortar is produced which sets within two hours. The product can be applied from 2 mm to 20 mm in thickness. For the tiling stages, Ardex X 7 Rapid Setting Flexible Tile Adhesive was used to fix porcelain tiles to the public areas and balconies. Ardex X 7 R is ideal for projects that require fast track installation, as it is ready to be walked on and grouted just two hours after application. All tile joints were grouted with Ardex-Flex FL Rapid Setting, Flexible Tile Grout.

Guess who is in Regent St

An ideal tile fixing solution from Ardex has been supplied to the new Guess store in London's Regent Street. In order to provide a premium finish to the prestigious Guess store, stylish large format 1200 mm x 600 mm Porcelain floor tiles were fixed with Ardex X 78 S Microtec Ultra Rapid Setting Floor Tile Adhesive in grey. Specifically designed for large format floor tiles, the product has a unique consistency which offers the benefits of pourable adhesives but without the disadvantages of dripping, says the firm. It is also possible to achieve solid bed fixing with Ardex X 78 S, without the need to butter the tile back. Thanks to rapid setting, the tiles can be walked on and grouted after just 90 minutes. Ardex-flex FL Rapid Setting Flexible Grout was used to provide a perfect finish.

Harrods has a fast finish

When Harrods redesigned two of its menswear departments, Ardex was called in to provide the ideal fixing solution, working together with BTM Marble & Granite, and BTM Trading. With a large portfolio of retail installations, Ardex was able to deliver products and technical support to meet the stringent project brief, including essential fast-track completion. The project began with an application of Ardex SD-T Base Mix over the original floor. Thanks to Ardex's Rapidry Formula technology, the new surface dried and hardened in hours. Ardex X 7 R Rapid Setting Flexible Tile Adhesive in grey was used to fix the new 600 mm x 600 mm Porcelain floor tiles, and 800 mm x 800 mm Emperador Marble floor tiles. Suitable for fixing all types of wall and floor tiles, Ardex X7 can be walked on and grouted two hours after application, and is the ideal solution where rapid completion is necessary.

Toy story for Ardex UK

Manufacturer of commercial flooring systems Ardex UK and flooring contractor Hull Flooring joined forces to provide the ideal solution for Smyths Toys' new store in Birmingham. Ardex K11 Levelling and Smoothing Compound was chosen to provide a smooth, flat surface on the 1200 m² installation. Developed for use with screed and concrete thicknesses between 1.5 mm and 10 mm, Ardex is claimed to be a cost-effective solution for levelling and smoothing sub-floors including cement/sand screeds, gypsum screeds and concrete. Ardex K11 is said to be hard enough to walk on 2.5 hours after application. Floorcoverings such as vinyl, linoleum and carpet can normally be applied the next day, at 20°C. Ardex AF100 Pressure-Sensitive Acrylic Flooring Adhesive was used with Polyflor vinyl sheet and tiles.

Refurbishing the pool

Ardex UK worked with Westfield Interiors of Wetherby to provide the ideal tiling solution for the refurbishment of Queen Mary's independent girl's school in North Yorkshire. The 190 m² refurbishment included rendering the walls with Ardex AM100 Rapid Hardening One Coat Tiling Render, which allows tiles to be fixed two hours after application. Ardex S21 beding mortar was chosen, as only a thin screed was needed. The mosaic tiles were fixed with Ardex 77 Microtec Flexible Floor & Wall Tile Adhesive, developed to achieve the slip resistance standard with a tile weighing twice the standard. Ardex-Flex FL Rapid Setting Flexible Grout completed the job.

Leisurely upgrade

Haverhill Leisure Centre, Suffolk, has recently reopened after undergoing a complete upgrade. Ardex and Cottrell Brickwork Ceramics of Ipswich came together to provide a tiling and grouting system solution for the refurbishment of the swimming pool walls and surrounds, spectator viewing gallery and wet change facilities. Ardex-Flex FL rapid-setting, flexible tile grout with built-in admix, was chosen in grey to grout the floor tile joints, with the white grout colour option specified for the walls. Ardex-Flex tile grouts are available in 32 colours. Ardex X 7 R Rapid Setting Flexible Tile Adhesive in grey and white was also used.

Ardex makes a grand entrance at The Mall in Kent

Ardex UK has joined forces with Cerface Limited, floor and wall tiling contractors of Gillingham in Kent, to complete a new visitors' centre at The Mall, Maidstone. Ardex Microtec X 78 S Ultra Rapid Setting Floor Tile Adhesive in grey was specified to fix Riven anti slip porcelain tiles to level and ramped floor areas. The combination of polymers, specialist cement and Microtec fibres give Ardex X 78 S user benefits, including rapid strength development and adhesion. The consistency of the product enhances performance for excellent application properties, and high yield, says the firm. In addition, downtime was minimised due to the rapid hardening time of the product which provides a walk on and grouting time of only 90 minutes. Ardex X 7 R Rapid Setting Flexible Tile Adhesive was also used to fix smaller Riven tiles to a new pedestrian bridge, linking the new and existing buildings. Ardex X 7 R is suitable for fixing all types of wall and floor tiles including porcelain, and offers excellent slump resistance, superior application properties and is designed to be suitable for use with underfloor heating.
