To replace traditional Trinidad Lake mastic asphalt originally protecting the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme, Bell Asphalt installed new mastic asphalt to waterproof the structure. The old asphalt from more than 37 separate flat roofs was first stripped off. As no-one works or lives in the memorial, there was no requirement for insulation but this time the roofing was replaced with Permaphalt polymer modified mastic asphalt advanced waterproofing. It is said to have a life expectancy of 60 years.
