Green Cladding adds twist

A residential development in Ramsgate has adopted a very Kentish approach with local-style buff colour bricks and Colorplan Premier Weatherboarding cladding from Hastings-based CEP Cladding.
But, instead of fixing the boards on a horizontal plane, they were installed at a 45 degree angle, contrasting with the traditional format.
The cladding is wood based and reproduces the effect of traditional timber weatherboards. It comprises a solid core of sustainable natural timber chips bound with a synthetic resin, with additional components to protect from fungal decay. This composite core is protected by an impermeable layer and an acrylic surface.
The product is available in 71 colours and seven textured wood-grain patterns.

Cladding is a sure stater

Nottingham County Council's new Sure Start Centre in Hucknall has a a light modern feel thanks to CEP Cladding's Bauclad panels.
The ?1.8 million centre comprises a single-storey structure built on a lightweight steel portal frame and topped out with an aluminium standing seam roof.
The external envelope is clad with brick up to dado height with the panels above.
Bauclad is a high pressure laminate suitable for most building applications. It is durable and hardwearing and claimed to be easy to maintain. The double-hardened scratch resistant surface will withstand a high degree of abrasion and impact.
It is also resistant to atmospheric pollutants, insect attack and the build-up of algae and moulds. The claimed strength and durability is said to make Bauclad a popular choice in public buildings and it is often chosen for its aesthetic appeal and design versatility.
The product is available in 70 colours and finishes, ranging from subtle pastels through to vibrant colours and wood and stone-effects. Being fully through-coloured, Bauclad retains its finish, even when scratched, and all colours are lightfast.
The panels were chosen for the external rainscreen cladding and supplied in both wood effect and solid colours.

Silver aluminium composite rainscreen panels from CEP Claddings were specified over zinc to give a clean, contemporary look to a luxury apartment development in south-east London.
The exterior of 'Aura', a development in Peckham Rye features full-height windows and balconies overlooking a park and common is CEP's Eltabond composite panelling as well as cement render, facing brick ship-lap cedar boarding and copper. The original specification was for zinc panelling but this was changed to aluminium composite for cost and performance reasons.

Time for zinc cladding on Greenwich development

For a residential project in Greenwich which required a building to be clad in zinc panels, CEP claddings' Bauclad laminate rainscreen system was specifed.
The Wood Wharf development comprises 48 apartments on the south bank of the Thames. A matt grey finish was applied to the Bauclad to achieve the effect that the original zinc specification had envisaged. The 6mm panels were rivet-fixed to an aluminium framework over traditional brickwork.
On the ground floor of the building, the company's Petrarch panels were applied. This product achieves the aesthetic of stone by incorporating natural slate and stone fillers in a resin binder with glass fibre reinforcement. The panels were secret-fixed using a structural adhesive system.

Bonded onto the resins is a phenolic film that produces an impermeable barrier. An acrylic surface coating is applied to give a weatherproof finish.
The finished product is a profiled tongue and groove board with a wood grain texture formed under high pressure.

Complementary medicine

Over 2000m? of prefabricated Bauclad high pressure laminate cladding panels have been supplied for the new block at Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool, by CEP Claddings. The product was chosen to provide low level, high impact-resistance and a high quality finish with clean lines. It also complemented the metal cladding on the vault roof and provided a light external hue without the high maintenance associated with a conventional white surface. The CEP1066 adjustable framing system meant the panels could be adhesive-fixed, thus negating the need for face-fixing and providing a blemish-free surface finish, the company claims. As part of the integrated system design, the company gave detailed insulation calculations including u-values and fire rating specification.

Both Adelphi and Matthias Courts in Salford, home to large numbers of the local student population, have undergone a major envelope upgrade. The original open balconies have been enclosed using 6mm thick, lightweight tobacco coloured CEP Bauclad cladding panels with Bauclad forming part of the composite spandrel panels. The balcony panels were screw fixed onto timber studding. Chosen for long term performance and resistance to environmental pollution, Bauclad?s range of colours also enabled architect Dane Ashworth Cottam to blend with the colour of the existing brickwork. Red CEP Etabond aluminium composite material was also used as a covering strip over the existing brick strips originally designed to conceal the gable floor edges.
