Brikmat 'is three times faster' - Catnic |
Catnic Brikmat has been hailed a success after undergoing rigorous training by CERAM Research, one of the UK's leading testing facilities. The tests revealed that, by using Catnic Brikmat, contractors can build up to three times faster while using 60 % less mortar. According to the manufacturers, the tests also revealed that the masonry support system also improves the stability of walls during construction, allowing brickies to build walls of up to 10 courses. This is compared to five or six courses without the support system.
CERAM's Dave Dix said: "Our testing revealed that Brikmat prevents the over-stressing of masonry to allow a work rise of up to 10 courses of blockwork in a single build. Without Brikmat, walls were stopped at five or six due to bowing and other stability problems."

Building up the courses - Catnic |
A bricklaying aid from Catnic has been used to apply Regency Ashlar Blocks from Forticrete on a development of 500 homes. By preventing the blocks from dipping and floating during construction, Brikmat allowed for the building of successive courses without the mortar being extruded under the weight of blocks.

Work on the Waterfront - Catnic |
Bespoke arch lintels from Catnic have been provided for Kenmore Home's 'The Waterfront' development in Greenock, Scotland, which consists of 80 apartments at James Watt Dock.
The development was designed to compliment the neighbouring nineteenth century listed sugar warehouse and the range of segmental and semi-circular arch lintels used to support the yellow brickwork was integral to the architectural design of the development.
The company's cost effective and quick fabrication service meant that 492 fabricated arch lintels could be designed, approved and manufactured for delivery in stages. This meant that delivery could be phased to meet the requirements of each stage in the construction programme.
Engineerers from Catnic provided advice which assisted in delivering the project on time and budget.

Sporting a new look - Catnic |
Replacing an old flat roof, a pitched roof design has been supplied by Catnic for Llanyravon Social Club's building which houses changing rooms, bar and social areas, in Cwmbran, South Wales.
Suitable for commercial and residential projects, the company's Litetile roofing system and Academytile profile in Jasper Red were selected. A 'traditional' style roofing system was required to complement surrounding architecture, whilst offering the advantages associated with modern roofing materials.
Some 610 tiles were fixed with a nailing system, each of which covers an area of 0.56m?. The size and light weight of the tiles meant that fewer trusses and battens were needed to support the roof.
The product is able to to accommodate design features such as dormer windows, and will offer durability, the company claims. Litetile can also be attached to either timber or steel trusses, and is a dry-fix system that requires no mortar.
