Green technology is top of of the nuns' priorities at the Thicket Priory monastery. Alongside geothermal heating, solar panels and green roofing, architects used celotex insulation for thermal efficiency.
Celotex products were fitted throughout the building. Owing to the varied use of the insulation products from both the FR4000 and GA3000 range were used to target the various needs of the installation.
Wall and roofing insulation was provided by FR4000, offering excellent thermal efficiency as well as Class O fire performance. The product also achieves an 'A' rating in the 2008 Green Guide says the firm. Celotex GA3000 was used for the underfloor insulation, aimed at providing a complete thermal shell.

Exeter Racecourse has recently benefited from the development of a new stand. Thermal performance was integral to the new building and as a result celotex CW3000 insulation boards were specified to meet the design brief.
2000 m2 of Celotex's CW3000 insulation boards were selected; the 50 mm polyisocyanurate foil faced boards outperform many other materials, says the firm. The product proved effective in minimising cavity thickness and providing thermal performance.
Designed specifically as a partial fill solution, the cavity construction will help prevent the ingress of moisture and provide an effective barrier to rain penetration, says the manufacturer. The foil facers of CW3000 have been independently tested and provide excellent low emissivity value, for an improved R-value.
"Highly-efficient" Celotex XR3000 insulation was specified for the roofs of the elegant Burbo Point apartment block development, on Merseyside's "golf coast".
Thermal performance was of vital importance on this prestigious development. RAL Architects paid close attention to materials specification. They selected the product for the internal roof void having been "won over by its excellent thermal properties." Celotex says XR3000 is a consistently popular choice with architects and specifiers across the country.
The 150 mm-thick PIR foil-faced boards, with an R-value of 6.50, are said to outperform many other insulating materials. With such effective insulation per millimetre, the product is ideal for minimising shell thickness.
The firm believes that it is the only PIR insulation that has been given an A+ rating in the BRE's Green Guide.
