Cemex Precast Products Cemex have supplied its ReadyBlock and ReadyPaveCEMEX have supplied its ReadyBlock and ReadyPave block paving for the construction of the new Macalloy Bar and Cable Ltd, manufactures of threaded bar and cable components to the construction industry worldwide. A total of 8,000mē of ReadyBlock Standard and Close Textured blocks were used for internal wall construction.

Cemex Precast Products Thermabate provides David Wilson homes with solutionThermabate has provided David Wilson Homes with a pre-formed solution to closing cavities around windows for all its Scottish housing developments. The Thermabate cavity closer has an insulating foam core which prevents thermal bridging, while the PVC-U box section forms a positive damp proof barrier and key for direct application of plaster. It prevents condensation, pattern staining and mould growth frequently associated with traditional methods of closing cavities.

New platorms at Marylebone

Cemex Precast Products New platorms at MaryleboneIn the construction of two new platforms at London Marylebone Station, Cemex has supplied 2500m of ReadyPave Agora concrete block paving. The units are of a hexagonal design and in a Burnt Ember colour. They provide a durable surface which is slip resistant in poor weather conditions and the larger dimensions of the 60mm thick blocks reduce vibration for wheeled luggage.

Cemex Precast Products Adjusting to the pitchesFive major projects in the Northampton area feature leading edge Russell concrete tiles in slate grey from Cemex. Office developments at Talvera Way, Bedford Road and Grange Park have low-rise buildings with pitched roofs. The Galloway product offered a classic slate tile appearance with durability and speed of installation. In contrast, two Wimpey Homes developments at Old Bedford Road and Newport Pagnell Road have a combination of adjoining pitched roofs terminating in a turret at each end of the main building. The interlocking design of the Galloway accommodates varying levels of pitch whilst the apex of the turrets uses Cemex plain tiles in a matching colour.

Bus depot refurbishment

Cemex Precast Products Bus depot refurbishmentAs part of a refurbishment programme at Orpington Bus Depot, Cemex provided its Uni-Coloc concrete block paving system to repave the existing surface. The ReadyPave Uni-Coloc system was mechanically laid in sections so that buses could drive onto it at the end of each day. An interlocking system allowed paving to be laid in any direction. It was provided in Charcoal with a thickness of 80mm. Sections of up to 1800m were laid onto a type 1 sub-base with a lean mix top surface.

Garden centre support

Cemex Precast Products Garden centre supportFor the construction of a new garden centre in Carlisle, Cemex has supplied its Chelsea Avenue concrete block paving setts. The paved areas of Houghton Hall Garden Centre amounts to 7000m? of walkways and sales zones. Using five block sizes, the 60mm thick setts were laid in a traditional random arrangement. Edgings and decorative coursings were created from single block sizes to provide visual relief in larger paved areas. The tones of the aggregates used to manufacture the Burnt Elm setts will mature over a period of time.

Cemex Precast Products Readyfloor passes school testAs part of an extension to a school in Somerset, Cemex has supplied its ReadyFloor beam and block flooring system. The 225mm deep beams were supplied before the start of school to avoid disruption. Pre-stressed concrete beams were laid onto the foundations and infilled with ReadyBlock building blocks. ReadyFloor is suitable for first floor and ground floor constructions.

The Edenhall product is manufactured using cement and natural aggregates. Banbury Red and Buff blocks were specified in two different finishes - weathered and split - to combine textural variation with contrasts in colour.

Cemex Precast Products Scots victory for landscapingSome 300m? of ReadyDrive 50mm rectangular concrete block paving from Cemex has been supplied for a hard landscaping project at Castledyke Park in Dumfries. The park, which is on the site of a ruined Norman castle, has a monument detailing Robert the Bruce's defeat of the English in 1306. The walkways and landscaping features at the park were laid in a 90? herringbone pattern using ReadyDrive 50mm thick blocks in Burnt Ember. Border edgings were created from horizontally laid blocks in Natural colour.

Beaming down

Cemex Precast Products Beaming downPrecast concrete beams from Cemex's ReadyFloor range have been supplied to Barratt Homes for a 200 home development at Digby near Exeter. Once the beams have been laid they are infilled with standard building blocks then brush grouted with cement. This provides a working platform for other trades to work on. Beams were produced on demand for the project.

Central Structure

Cemex Precast Products Central StructureWorking with The Landscape Practice architects, Cemex has produced a new feature in Birmingham city centre. The company designed the rebar of the units and produced moulds in house at their Shap factory in Cumbria. Some twelve columns were cast, using a mixture of white OPC concrete and granite aggregate, weighing 4.7 tonnes each. They form two semi-circles within a seating area in Park Central.

Green in everything but colour

Cemex Precast Products Green in everything but colourAn East Midlands re-roofing scheme has utilised Russell roof tiles from Cemex. The Cottage Red Lothian tiles have replaced Rosemary clay tiles in 20 dwellings. Manufactured using eco-friendly methods, requiring 40% less raw material than traditional plain tiles, it has a thin leading edge and features a matt finish in a colour palette of cottage red slate grey, black, terracotta, rustic peat and peat brown.

Some 790m of ReadyFloor 155mm prestressed concrete floor beams were delivered with 209m? of ReadyBlock Dense concrete blocks for the infill. Some 2067m? of Noisemaster blocks in contrasting colours were used on a new sports hall. The blocks are sound absorbing cellular structural units manufactured in accordance with BS6073: Part 1. Cemex Precast Products New generation of coloured asphaltTo meet demand for coloured asphalt in modern road construction, Cemex has launched Viashade. It provides coloured aggregates blended with pigmented clear binders to provide a durable surface. It is available in green, red or buff but other colours and mixes can be provided. Viashade Natural uses quarried aggregates bound with black bitumen. Aggregates can be specified to provide a naturally coloured surface.

Banking on permeability

Cemex Precast Products Banking on permeabilitySome 5,000m of Cemex's Uni-Ecoloc permeable paving system has been applied to car parks at the Royal Bank of Scotland Headquarters in Edinburgh. It was important that surface water draining into the watercourse was treated in accordance with sustainable urban drainage best practice. The Gogar Bum, a wildlife corridor subject to flooding, passes through the site. The aggregate filled voids allow surface water to infiltrate into the wetlands where natural treatment takes place before being discharged. These larger voids prevent build up and blockage from leaves which fall from surrounding trees. The product is a concrete block permeable paving system manufactured in clusters, 80mm thicknesses, and four colours. They are suitable for machine or hand laying.

Local stone

Cemex Precast Products Local stoneProminent buildings on the Fife Leisure Park at Dunfermline, Scotland feature Cast Stone and Edenhall architectural masonry units from Cemex. The colour of the cast stone is a mix selected from samples designed to emulate the typical blonde local sandstone used throughout central Scotland. The Carlton Bingo building also featured large, besopke, corniced copings.

Face off

Cemex Precast Products Face offConcrete blocks from Cemex have been used to create a feature on the gable end of a development in Essex. Combining with clay bricks, the ReadyBlock 140mm ST is rarely used externally but was chosen due to its facial qualities and consistent form. The ReadyBlock range includes dense and lightweight blocks in varying densities and thicknesses, with two Paint Grade finishes.

Close textured finish

Cemex Precast Products Close textured finishSome 1,100m? of concrete blocks have been supplied by Cemex for the construction of internal walls in Sheffield's new Hillsborough College Campus. Different types of ReadyBlock were specified for both structural and nonstructural applications throughout the building. Over 8,000m? of ReadyBlock 1400 CT (Paintgrade) was used for the construction of walls in the sports hall, fitness gymnasium and refectory areas. This provides a close textured finish for painting whilst also providing the thermal properties to meet Building Regulations u-values.

Cemex Precast Products Specified to provide an 'all-round' solution, Cemex roof tiles now feature on homes maintained by Ashfield District Council as part of a project to bring all homes up to a decent standard. The refurbishment involved re-covering a proportion of the council's domestic housing stock. In total, Cemex supplied two million tiles from its Highland and Pennine ranges. The Highland tiles, supplied in terracotta red and anthracite, have a simulated centre joint, complementing the existing clay tiles on surrounding properties.

Environmental solution

Cemex Precast Products Environmental solutionSome 132 precast concrete units from Cemex have been supplied for the construction of an environmental lagoon at the BASF Seal Sands site near Hartlepool. The lagoon is designed to store run-off water which could contain hazardous chemicals. The 'L' shaped, 4m deep precast units were designed to accommodate a floating cover which would prevent the loss of volatiles. As site restrictions meant in-situ concrete was not an option, precast concrete was chosen as the best option to form the shape of the lagoon and meet the requirement for rapid installation with minimum use of plant and manpower.
