Hard landscaping specialist Charcon has supplied over 400 square metres of its environmentally friendly EcoPave Flag Paving to Wimpey Homes for installation at its new Dunston Staiths development in Gateshead.
Developed to optimise the manufacturing processes while minimising the usage of raw materials, Charcon's Eco range has been specifically created with green credentials in mind.
Alan Hodgson, Charcon's territory sales manager, said: 'Containing over 76% of recycled materials, EcoPave Flag Paving has been developed to meet the growing need for sustainable hard landscaping. Having seen the development and Wimpey Homes' plans, EcoPave in Black Fleck was ideal for the project.'
For a warning beacon off the coast of Western Ireland, Charcon has designed a pre-cast concrete base. The company used a 3.5 tonne concrete plinth using Sulphate Resistant Cement to withstand the conditions. A tapered circular design was developed to provide minimum resistance and facilitate water run off. Plastic fibres were used for reinforcement.
Following a ?5 million investment, Charcon has announced the opening of its new block paving plant on a site in Ashington in the North East of England.
Some 70 guests, including The Duchess of Northumberland, attended the opening, which included a tour of the plant.
A manufacturer of commercial hard landscaping products, Charcon commissioned the block paving plant to serve the North of England and Scotland. When fully operational, the plant will produce 1,000,000m? of block paving per annum.
Offering a range of alternatives to conventional kerb, gully and drain networks, Charcon has developed two new integrated kerb drainage systems.
The company has developed Mini Highway - which offers a combination of efficient drainage capability with compact design - and Highway Ultra - a one or two piece polymer concrete combined drainage system for towns and city centres providing surface water drainage solutions for a variety of applications.
Mini Highway is a two part kerb drainage system with a compact design with no loss of strength. Manufactured from quartzite, granite and basalt bound in a resin compound, Highway Ultra has resistance to frost and road salts.
Initially developed as a signature product, Andover Washed block paving from Charcon is now widely available for use on pedestrian schemes. Incorporating granite aggregates and white cement, the blocks are manufactured in a semi-dry process and the face surface then washed to give its finish. It is available in Silver Grey, Anthracite Grey and Buff, and can be laid in a herringbone pattern to withstand vehicular traffic with its chamferless profile providing a smooth riding surface.
