As part of a refurbishment programme, Crittall Windows has supplied profiles from its Homelight L range of steel windows for a full replacement of existing windows at an 18-storey tower block in Islington, London.
The windows are double glazed and hot-dipped galvanised against corrosion. All are weatherstripped and available double glazed and polyester powder coated.
Offering slim sight lines to allow the ingress of natural light, the windows have a u-value of 2.2W/m?K and can accept a 24mm double glazed unit.
Steel window profiles from Crittall Windows have been used at University College London. Specified to meet planning requirements and complement surrounding buildings, large pieces of glass were installed without transomes and mullions alongside fewer sealed joints. A low co-efficient of expansion reduces thermal movement and the risk of perimeter sealant failure.
Combining timber on the internal window face and aluminium on the outer, Crittall's Composite range of windows meets performance requirements in commercial and residential applications. It provides thermal and acoustic performance through the high thermal mass of the timber element and 28mm double-glazed units utilising low 'E' glass and gas filled cavities.
Refurbishment of the Thistle Marble Arch has been completed with Crittall steel windows installed, replacing the single glazed units. The company supplied its Corporate W20 double glazed units which perform a functional role and aesthetical appeal through narrow sightlines and profiles.
All the windows in the new Soho Hotel in London have been supplied by Crittall Windows using the Corporate W20 and 2000 ranges. In total, 150 windows were supplied, with small panes and curved heads. In addition, the front entrance doors were designed using the company's cold formed sections.
Some 50 colours are available with the Duralife polyester powder coating system from Crittall. This in-house factory applied process, which involves electrostatically sprayed application of an epoxy-free polyester powder onto previously galvanised windows which are then stoved. This is designed to ensure that the steel windows and doors have a permanent, aesthetically pleasing protection.
Steel windows from Crittall have been incorporated into the design ofBeaufort Court, the former Ovaltine Egg Farm in Hertfordshire. Under the planning guidelines for the site the views of the outside of the building had to remain largely unchanged. The installation of the 90 steel profiles followed the planning considerations and matched the steel courtyard enclosure.
Modern units from Crittall Windows are to replace the original steel windows as part of a refurbishment programme at the Thistle Marble Arch, London. The company has been directly employed by Thistle to supply a quantity of its W20 units in a likefor- like replacement programme which will be staggered over 25 weeks. This is due to the hotel being located on Oxford Street, one of the busiest thoroughfares in the country, so the on-site work must be unobtrusive, safe and fast. The building is part of the Portman Estate and has an exterior design in the late Art Deco period. This architectural style is to be retained, reflected by the choice of windows. Constructed post second world war, the building is a structure of six storeys above a row of high street shops. Although the hotel underwent a renovation programme in 1998, the original steel windows are still in place. The decision to replace them means that more updated units can be used, with the most significant change from single to double glazing.
The Crittall Homelight L steel window, an advanced version of the company?s highly successful and established Homelight range is detailed in a new leaflet. The new range has been designed to fully meet the requirements of Part L1 and L2 of the Building Regulations for England and Wales. Homelight L fully complies with the thermal performance demands of Part L of the Building Regulations by offering a U Value of 2.2W/m2K. The window incorporates 4/16/4mm glazing comprising a 4mm clear Weatherstripping is incorporated as standard.
