Decra has ventured online

Decra has ventured online to demonstrate the advantage of its lightweight steel roof tiles over traditional roofing materials.
The tests include a comparison of speed and security of installation and impact resistance. The online speed demonstration uses a test roof area of 4m² and compares Decra's Oberon and Classic/Elegance tiles against traditional concrete, clay plain tiles and concrete interlocking tiles.

Decra's double whammy

Development No.1: Renowned pioneers in lightweight steel roof systems, Decra have complemented their counterparts in glass with the launch of a dry roof tile with self-cleaning characteristics.
A new coating on the company's Elegance tiles contains high levels of Teflon and silicon to create a non-stick, highly water repellent surface with the enhanced self-cleaning properties. Rainwater is shrugged off, taking dirt with it. This improves the lifetime of the roof, particularly in aggressive environments such as coastal areas where salt is corrosive.
The coating also reduces maintenance which improves health and safety factors - no cleaning equalling no-one on the roof. As well as being a non-stick coating, it is also non-toxic and environmentally friendly which means rainwater run off can be harvested for re-use.

Development No.2:

Development No.2: Decra has brought some Italian styling to its steel tiles range with the launch of a Roman version to meet designer trend for all things continental.
Weighing in at just 5.38kg/m2, the Roman tile is less than one-eighth the weight of a traditional clay or concrete Roman tile and can be installed on much lower pitches - down to 15º - due to its soft satin finish which makes it even feel like clay.

Tile coating for a cool roof

Lightweight roof systems specialist, Decra is taking another step with the launch of a steel tile that reflects the sun. A new coating on the company's Elegance tiles helps to prevent the sun's infra-red rays from being absorbed, reducing CO2 emissions and energy bills during the warmer months, by lessening the need for air conditioning. The non-toxic coating, which inhibits the growth of moss or algae, means that the tiles can also be used for rainwater harvesting.
The Decra Elegance tile is less than one-eighth the weight of traditional clay or concrete tiles and, say the manufacturers, it can be easily cut and bent on-site.

Village roof is just cricket

When a Leicestershire village cricket club commissioned a new clubhouse, the architect specified Decra roof tiles to withstand the occasional six.
Over 2,000 steel Stratos tiles were installed on the complex, curved roof of Kibworth Cricket Club in two thirds the time of more conventional tiles.
Bill Smedley, managing director of the architects for the project rg+p, said: 'One of the advantages of the Decra tiles is that they won't break if a cricket ball hits them. It will just bounce off. If we had wanted to use concrete or slate tiles we would have had to replace them

Modular security found in steel tiles

In the specification of tiles for two bungalows for disabled people, Decra roof tiles had to be secure as well as weather resistant.
Security was important as the bungalows had to be transported by articulated trailer to site and then craned into position.
The company's lightweight steel roof tiles can be used on pitched roofs on modular projects and have achieved Secured by Design accreditation.
A small format, angular Parctile in Charcoal Grey, and weighing 5.98kg/m, was specified for a pitch of between 12? and 90?. The tiles have a core of galvanised steel with a multi-layered protective coating and a granular finish.

This means that the company's products can be supplied to a Police Preferred Specification which is circulated to police crime prevention departments and local authorities.

Based on an L-shaped building, the cost model had a 30? pitch roof and area of 450m?.
