With severe flooding again making the headlines, Delta Membrane Systems has pioneered a method of reinstatement claimed to dramatically reduce the time families affected have to endure disruption.
Eliminating the need for traditional drying, Delta creates waterproof 'boxes' within the affected rooms. Delta's PT cavity membrane can be fixed to a damp wall, dot and dabbed, and skimmed, in a fraction of the drying time required by the traditional methods. The HDPE membrane ensures air can circulate behind it, and floors can also be treated.

The Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon has recently undergone refurbishment work with the help of products from Delta Membrane Systems.
Some 2800 m² of Delta PT, a high performance polyethylene waterproof membrane, was specified to isolate the damp wall from the new plaster, and allow ventilation of the wall for permanent dampness control. The membrane is extruded into a series of 8 mm studs to create a continuous air gap. Ventilation gaps at the top and bottom of the system allow circulation.
Green roofs are becoming increasingly popular. Delta Membrane Systems offers Delta-Terraxx as a solution to the challenge of effective drainage and protection on these roofs.
Delta-Terraxx comprises a dimpled sheet with a fused-on geotextile to form an effective drainage layer, for use in horizontal applications. Facing upwards, the geotextile acts as a filter protecting the air gap created by the dimpled sheet underneath. Under a covering of soil, the heat-bonded permanent filtration geotextile keeps the simple structure from being clogged. This ensures that excess water is efficiently drained away, and that it is protected from frost in winter months. The integrated self-sealing edge helps prevent root penetration.
Radon gas is a danger in many parts of the UK, and as a result Delta Membrane Systems now offers an effective barrier to Radon gas in the form of Delta-Gas Barrier System.
The gas is a radioactive substance that has the potential to cause lung cancer in humans. Radon comes from minute amounts of uranium that occur naturally in all rocks and soils. Older, draughty homes are particularly susceptible to the gas.
For this reason, Radon has to be prevented from entering the building. Delta-Gas Barrier is ideally suited to this task, conforming to BR 211, BR 212 and Building Regulations Document C. The barrier has the added advantage of a protection layer against rising damp.
The roll size of 4 m x 25 m helps with the quick application of the product, whilst reducing overlapping. Adhesives are available from Delta to ensure effective, gas-tight seals.
The barrier is 0.4 mm thick and has an anti-slip profile on both sides, allowing good adhesion to mortar. The company claim that the product is a "tough and durable barrier".
The membrane also offers high levels of resistance to cracking at low temperatures, and has the flexibility to bend easily around corners.
Recent history shows that when serious flood damage occurs, occupiers have to leave their homes for considerable amounts of time, but Delta Membrane Systems is hoping to offer an end to this situation.
The firm says it has
pioneered a method of reinstatement that dramatically reduces the time families must endure disruption, by eliminating the need for traditional drying.
The firm uses a cavity membrane to create a waterproofed box within existing damp basements. These are suitable for flood damaged properties that suffer entrapped dampness. The PT membrane can be fixed to a damp wall, 'dot and dabbed' and skimmed, in a “fraction” of the drying time of traditional remediation methods.
Delta FoulMaxx is a submersible pump designed to remove foul and grey water from domestic and commercial properties where a normal gravity connection is not possible. The system from delta membrane systems is ideally suited to basements and cellars where flooding may occur.
The package pump stations are made from either HDPE or GRP materials and will collect and dispose of water effectively and efficiently. FoulMaxx is made in accordance with BS12056 and BS752 with covering chambers to be mounted both inside and outside properties.
To install, the chamber is lowered into an excavation with suitable base, and all connections made. Concrete is then used to back-fill the excavation.
A special inlet kit has been developed to allow the installer to cut either 110mm or 160mm on-site, at the exact point required. Chambers are available for a range of depths and diameters.
Using these systems Delta is also able to comply with Building regulations part H if required.
