Guests staying at the Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel in South Africa?s Cape Town can now enjoy uninterrupted views across the city thanks to a structurally glazed fa?ade made possible by the use of Dow Corning?s 993 structural glazing silicone sealant. The structurally glazed frame of the hotel features over 500 flat glass panels with double clad skins. They were designed and constructed so that none of the aluminium frames are visible giving the impression of one continuous wall of glass. In total, 12,000m2 of structural glazing was installed. Dow Corning?s 993 structural glazing silicone sealant was used for all the bonding and weather sealing of the glazed curtain walling.
Designed for use where a long term weatherproofing solution on a building facade is demanded, 756 SMS Building Sealant is now available from Dow Corning. It has a low-friction surface that reduces dirt pick-up, while reducing fluid migration that could lead to staining and dirt streaking. The cured sealant has a dry, matt finish, yet the surface feels slippery to the touch.
