Thermal frame

Dupont (UK) Ltd Thermal frameA metalilised breather membrane by DuPont has been applied at an engineering company's headquarters. The DuPont Tyvek Enercor is a reflective membrane installed in the timber frame structure to protect against heat loss. It has 'breathsulate' technology to produce optimum thermal efficiency, and it is wind and water-tight.

Solid solution to energy saving

Dupont (UK) Ltd Solid solution to energy savingA thermal mass panel with energy saving and temperature control properties has been launched by DuPont Building Innovations. Energain is a lightweight panel of 5mm thickness, composed of a 'phase change material' made from paraffin in a DuPont copolymer at a 60-40% ratio and laminated on either side in an aluminium sheet. Panels are supplied in 1.2m by 1.2m dimensions. An aluminium tape is required to seal joins between panels and repair abrasions. It works by employing the capability of the phase change material to absorb and release heat. The compound has a melt point of 22?C, at which stage it begins to absorb heat from the room and to store it. When the internal temperature drops back to 18?C, it re-solidifies and releases heat back into the room. It has been designed to be installed behind the plasterboard lining on the interior walls and ceilings of lightweight structures such as timber, steel or aluminium framed buildings.

Harbouring breather membranes

Dupont (UK) Ltd Harbouring breather membranesBreather membranes for thermal management from DuPont's Tyvek Reflex product range are being used on a Glasgow Harbour development. Built by Taylor Woodrow Construction and designed by Cooper Cromer, 770 apartments are being constructed for Bryant Homes. The product is incorporated as part of the Powerwall energy-efficient wall system because its metalised surface has low emissivity. Research at the Building Research Establishment has shown that the reduction in thermal transmission from the product ranges from 10.4% to 15.6%. Performance is provided by the 'breathsulate' technology which combines moisture diffusion capacity and surface reflectivity. The result is a 'vapour open' membrane.
