Restoring historic properties to former glory - Eternit UK Ltd |
Three historic properties in Wilmslow have been restored to their former glory after the use of Marley Eternit's clay tiles.
Specifiers chose Marley Eternit's single chamber Acme clay plain tiles to create an authentic look for the 19th century half-timbered mansion house, coach house and small cottage on Stanneylands Road, overlooking the River Dean.
Brian Hughes from developers, Eatonfield said: "Our in-house design team specified Acme clay tiles because we wanted to achieve the visual appeal of a traditional roof with ease of fitting and time-efficiency.
"With this development, our aim was to extend and refurbish the properties in a manner befitting their location in protected woodland, so we wanted to choose a roofing material that blended in with both the natural and historic surroundings."

Panels in colours as natura intended - Eternit UK Ltd |
After an international colour workshop involving architects from the UK, France and Germany, Marley Eternit has launched a Natura range of fibre cement decorative cladding panels.
In contrast with the Natura Plus range which features the same colour throughout, the new Natura range includes nine colours that are available as a varnish on a lightweight Anthacite (dark grey) core and a further five varnish colours on a natural grey core.
UK architects Cany Ash and Robert Sakula from Ash Sakula Architects in London met with Konrad Wohlhage from Leon Wohlhage Wernik Architekten in Berlin and David Trottin from Peripheriques Architectes in Paris for the workshop.
Together they analysed Marley Eternit's cladding colour range and those available from sister companies in Europe.
The architects expressed a preference for shades of the more natural colours even when a range contained bold primary colours.
They suggested strengthening the natural identity of the fibre cement substrate by using colour varnishes on the base material. This recommendation was taken on board and the result is the Natura colours range.

Panel cure - Eternit UK Ltd |
Fibre cement cladding panels from Marley Eternit helped architects Nightingale Associates meet the brief tio provide a day surgery unit in the shortest time possible.
The lightweight Natura Plus through-coloured rainscreen panels in Anthracite were specified to clad, in an outsized planking effect, the whole of the 1,150m² site at Singleton hospital for Swansea NHS Trust.
Richard Golledge of Nightingale Associates said: 'Anthracite was used because the backdrop of the building had a band of trees on the site boundary and dark grey actually helps the building recede into this green backdrop.'
This approach, coupled with a partnering contract that brought the design team, contractor and client together at an early stage, ensured that the volumetric off-site units delivered and erected in just five days, with the whole project from inception to completion, took less than twelve months.

Tile coating - Eternit UK Ltd |
Roofing manufacturer Marley Eternit has launched a ground-breaking roof tile coating that will absorb asthma-causing pollutants from the air in UK cities.
The new coating, EcoLogic, contains a catalyst that is activated by the sun's rays. This removes nitrogen oxides which contribute to asthmatic and bronchial problems from the air, along with other atmospheric pollutants responsible for smog and acid rain.
The company estimates that during its lifetime an average-sized roof with EcoLogic tiles could remove an amount of Nitrogen Oxide equivalent to that emitted by a modern car driving 100,000 miles.

Developer Kirk Shenton specified clay tiles from Marley Eternit to maintain a traditional look at a four home development in Cheshire.
The first two properties on the site were covered with a mix of the company's double-cambered Acme natural clay plain tiles and Hawkins Dark Heather Single Camber tiles.
As the tiles were blended, a 'handmade' appearance was produced, even if the actual products were machine made. Controlled variation of the kiln during firing created the natural fired colours.
The double camber of the Acme range assists in the discharge of water as well as breaking up the roofline.

Concrete council housing in South Wales has been given a new lease of life as social housing following a refurbishment which includes a variety of products from Marlet Eternit. On the roofs, the company's fibre cement slates are accompanied by ventilated clay red ridge tiles that have been dry fixed, while fibre cement Weatherboard cladding breaks up the brickwork on some of the upper-storey elevations. Slates are an indigenous material to Wales but natural slate was not a realistic option for the budget so the family of artificial slates from Marley Eternit was deemed a suitable alternative. The dry-fix ventilated plain angle ridge tiles have been used as hip tiles, while the Weatherboard cladding was pre-painted white.
