News just in from Eurobond: The company has perfected a lifting clamp for the safe, easy installation of its Europanel, Rockspan and Firemaster ranges of panels when laid horizontally. Eurobond say that by using the panel clamp, contractors can now reduce time on site and labour costs. The clamp facilitates the installation of up to 2000m² of panels per day.

Eurobond's Europanel and Rockspan systems have gained Confidex Sustain backing as Corus Colorcoat assessed cladding systems. The company reports that, as it is now part of the world's first "crade to grave" Carbon Neutral building envelope programme, projects using either Rockspan or Europanel can benefit from the Confidex Sustain pledge to offset the CO2 impact from the entire cladding system. This will span from manufacture through to the end of useful life.

Eurobond and Sitka are working together to support Eurobond's strategy of closed loop recycling at its manufacturing facility in Wales. Sitka supplies the bonding adhesive for the manufacture of Eurobond's steel-faced composite wall panels. Over 360 tonnes of two component polyurethane adhesive will be supplied to the manufacturing process in 2007. Eurobond's production line has been developed to produce almost 0% raw material waste and partnerships with suppliers has been key to this figure being achieved.

Tests have shown that 13 metre lengths of Eurobond Rockspan Extra can realistically be handled on site, meaning potential savings for major projects. A 1300mm x 1150mm x 125mm panel was monitored throughout the production, transportation and installation stages. The successful test resulted in the company extending the range to include a 13 metre option.

Rockspan panels for two new ASDA stores in Enniskillen and Strabane have been by supplied by Eurobond. Made with a non-combustible lightweight mineral wool core, the panels are said to be ideal for high traffic public buildings as they limit the spread of flames in the event of a fire. Both stores were built using the Rockspan 150mm panel system made in Corus Colourcoat white PDVF.

Firemaster Panels from Eurobond have been installed in a new Macrae Food Group facility in Livingstone, Edinburgh to provide a non-combustible internal partition, offering the highest levels of fire safety. Approximately 12000m of composite Eurobond Rockwool core material panels were put in place, consisting of 100mm thick Firemaster wall, 100mm thick Firemaster wall extra and 150mm thick Firemaster ceilings.

For the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link's Temple Mills train depot at Stratford, Eurobond has supplied over 12,000m of its fire resistant Rockspan Extra composite panels. For the building fabric an emphasis was placed on minimising the potential spread of flame and the risk caused by smoke. With a high density, non-combustible Rockwool Conrock core, the system was specified in Corus Colorcoat PVDF anthracite and grey aluminium. The system offers symmetrical fire protection of up to two hours integrity, without the need for additional flashings. Panels can span up to six metres in length, reducing the need for additional steelwork.

For Tesco's distribution centre in Wales, Eurobond Rockspan Extra non-combustible panels have been installed. The 23,000m? building forms part of the 40,000m? distribution centre. Rockspan panels were specified as they have a non-combustible mineral wool core which provides symmetrical protection against fire spread without the need for additional flashings to either the inside or outside. Whereas foam cored panels require additional safeguards to meet LPS 1181 guidelines, mineral wool core panels do not. This meant that the Rockspan panels could be applied without compromising the aesthetics of the building. As mineral wool does not ignite, no smoke is generated, which was important in the specification for Tesco as smoke could potentially badly damage stock in a fire event. The Europanel Extra system can reduce or eliminate the requirement of secondary steelwork, maximising the potential floorspace of a building.

A new wine warehouse in Braintree has some 2000m? of Eurobond's Rockspan in metallic silver. With the rear wall of the warehouse creating a boundary condition on the south side, Rockspan's Grade A fire rating was selected as it offers symmetrical fire resistance from both inside and outside the building. Specified for its smooth, clean finish and fire performance, the product is manufactured from a non-combustible mineral wool core that limits the spread of flames, with up to two hours integrity.

A new Ikea store in Aston-under-Lyne has been partitioned using the Eurobond Firemaster System. The Rockwool core composite panels provide fire resistance, reducing the risk of flame spread in a fire event. Firemaster Wall Lite and Wall Extra panels were specified for the compartmentation. Both products are LPCB and FM approved, and offer four hours of fire resistance, with the Rockwool core classified as A1 non-combustible under the Euroclass reaction to fire classification.

The elevations are constructed from a mixture of Rockspan cladding, brick, reconstructed stone and white through coat rendered panels. Proving its ability to withstand loading in a real life situation, Eurobond has put its composite panel products through stringents tests. The panels have passed the EB500 tests, which assesses its ability to withstand repeated pressure. The test involves two men walking along the span 500 times, and then calculates the bending moment capacity by loading the centre of the panel until it fails. All of Eurobond's mineral wall panels passed the EB500 tests.

Two PFI schools, the Sacred Heart School at Redcar and Boldon School, both near Newcastle, have been clad with Europanels manufactured by Eurobond. Boldon School comprises three linked blocks. The 1050 pupil school has five main teaching areas and linked open planning spaces. Corridors have been eliminated. To provide maximum fire protection in this area 900mm module Europanels were used for their inherent fire resistance, due to their Rockwool mineral fibre core. In the sports and theatre facilities, 125mm thick Europanels were employed to provide sound insulation.

Some 20,000m? of cladding for two News International printing works has been supplied by Eurobond. The 150mm thick panels, assisted by the density of the Rockwall mineral fibre core, provide non-combustibility and high passive fire protection. Its sandwich panel manufacturing process produces flat panels that gives slim-line modules and architectural freedom, the company claims.

Europanel has a mineral fibre core which is non-combustible and provides up to 2hr. passive fire protection. Combining brick with Eurobond's Premier PVF2 cladding panels and Comar intergated windows has provided a solution to the surface of a new building at John Ratcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The architects purposefully chose to accentuate the horizontality of the building by deep definition of the linear joints of the cladding and by exploiting the flatness of the panels.
