Office managers are now able to maximise their work space and reduce costs thanks to new developments in lighting management control systems. Ex-Or's Managed Lighting Systems now use presence detection to automatically control the lighting of an office space, switching it off when an area is not in use.
With the increase of so-called 'hot-desking' many employees now frequently move around an office meaning that some areas are not in use at a specific time. This system not only helps reduce day-to-day running costs but can also adapt as soon an office layout changes, ending the need to call qualified electricians.
The system is controlled by a simple hand-held unit that can alter and set the programmable features by simply pointing it at the nearest luminaire and just touching a button.
Lighting controls by Ex-Or will be supplied to the University of Manchester over the next three years.
The company's LightSpot system comprises controllers and photocells and is employed to automatically switch lights on and off, dim and brighten them, by monitoring natural light.
Lighting management from Ex-Or has been specified for the headquarters of the Spinal Injuries Association in Milton Keynes. The company's products were specified to ensure energy would be wasted and that optimum levels of light will be delivered automatically.
A direct/indirect system of suspended luminaries located in parallel channel systems was selected with each luminaire containing an Ex-Or MLS sensor to provide the presence and daylight regulating control required.
The elimination of light switches for staff using wheelchairs was beneficial as the lighting will automatically illuminate the rooms and will regulate to the optimum level.
Lighting control from Ex-Or has been utilised on Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol. The company's SceneSelect II will control thousands of LEDs, fluorescent tubes and lamps. A variety of pre-programmed lit displays are summoned by using a touch screen control. Rather than individually switching on separate lights to create a lit scene, the screen control summons the programmed scene.
Lighting management systems from Ex-Or have been specified for the extension to Guildford College of Law's learning resource centre.
Applying the company's LightSpot presence detection system, it automatically switches the lights on and off depending on presence. They also monitor levels of natural light, ensuring they only switch on if there is no daylight. The SceneSelect II, an automatic scene-setting and dimming system, was installed so that previously programmed environments cab be used, and allows presenters to control the plasma screen and lighting for laptops.
According to Ex-Or, lighting can account for up to half of a commercial buildings energy costs. To manage this cost the company offers a range of lighting management systems which ensure lights automatically dim down or switch off when not in use. Its MLD Digital Managed Lighting System allows groups of luminaires to be individually controlled in pre-determined work zones, thus delivering the correct lighting level.
