Membrane plays a key role

New life is being breathed into a Motherwell residential area using state-of-art technology.
An element of the design of the 72 homes by Miller Homes with Oregon Timber Frame Engineering, has been incorporation of materials to achieve Miller’s policy to help develop a carbon reduction strategy, including Glidevale’s new TF200 Thermo insulating membrane.
Glidevale Protect TF200 Thermo is said to provide better vapour resistance than that required by both TRADA and NHBC, and simultaneously improves thermal performance by at least 100%+ in timber frame wall construction.

A new way to discreetly increase natural daylight

A new way to discreetly increase natural daylight in dark rooms is being introduced by Glidevale.
The Cheshire-based company, manufacturer of the Sunscoop domed tubular rooflight, has developed an 'in-plane' version suitable for its 250, 350 and 530mm diameter systems. Fitting virtually flush to the roof, Sunscoop In-Line is therefore unobtrusive once installed, providing a discreet and aesthetically pleasing way of naturally lighting the building.

In effort to improve the energy efficiency

In an effort to improve the energy efficiency of its public conveniences, Warwick District Council has retro-fitted five 250mm Glidevale Sunscoop tubular roof lights with light and sun deflectors, and Skyview diffusers to the public toilets at Pageant Gardens.
David Medcraft at the council said: 'The centre of Warwick is a conservation area, so we also have to consider the impact aesthetically on the surrounding environment.

Extended range of roofing and ventilation solutions

Glidevale has extended its range of roofing and ventilation solutions to enhance the performance of roofs, walls and floors. The Protect Zytec helps avoid condensation risk in both warm and cold roofs. It has unrestricted use for wind uplift in all exposure conditions in the UK and Ireland and does not generate nuisance noise under wind loading. UV and heat resistant, it can be used as a temporary roof cover, being entirely watertight.

Reduce energy consumption

Tubular rooflights from Glidevale ensure that natural daylight is incorporated into school buildings and that artificial light and electricity consumption is reduced.
The Sunscoop product has a clear polycarbonate dome on the roof to catch daylight and reflect it down a specular tube through the roof void into the classroom or corridor below. A SR95 unit provides 95% reflectivity whilst the SR98 provides 98% reflectivity. Within the range of options are a secondary glazing skin for thermal performance and a light and sun deflector.

Vapour permeable wall membrane

A new insulating vapour permeable wall membrane aimed at improving thermal performance in timber frame wall construction has been launched by Glidevale to. The company's Protect TF200 Thermo combines the TF200 timber frame vapour permeable membrane with enhanced thermal performance achieved by a thermally bonded integral highly reflective aluminium layer.

Document L compliance

A minimum of one hour fire protection and insulation in compliance with Document L are achieved with Glidevale's new LA6 hinge down loft trap.
Manufactured from powder coated galvanised mild steel, it provides 0.35W/m/K with an integral draught seal to lessen moisture migration into the loftspace. Fitting standard 600mm joists, it has an opening size of 520mm by 630mm.

Valley variations

Used with both slate and tile, the Glidevale Univalley 125 system can be applied to roofs of varying pitches and dry or wet-fixed with natural slates, concrete and clay tiles. Manufactured from AB fire rated GRP, the valleys have been designed to give a 125mm clear water channel with a gel coating for durability.

Ensuring home compliance

For compliance with Building Regulations at the development of a three bedroom house in Ashton under Hill, AMA Design architectural consultants specified Glidevale to design the roof ventilation.
The warm roof comprises the company's waterproof, uv and heat stabilised Protect A1 impermeable roofing underlay, AA fire rated Premier In-Line Slate ventilators, Fascia ventilators for eaves ventilation, and loft traps to reduce the risk of loft condensation.

Letting in the country air

Glidevale
Private and social housing in the Cotswolds from Lovell is utilising Glidevale's new Fulmetal Rediroll universal dry fix ridge ventilation system on all the stone roofed homes, which accounts for almost a third of the new development. A proprietary ridge ventilator was used on clay tiled roofs.
The system is a colour co-ordinated continuously ventilated aluminium roll which includes a mechanical fixing for the ridge tiles. It is laid across the top course of tiles or slates underneath the ridge tiles to provide integral ventilation and resistance to rain penetration, avoiding potential damp and condensation issues in the roof void.
With a metal construction, it is rot proof and corrosion resistant and eliminates the need for ridge fillers and unions.

Period style, modern standard

Ensuring a robust and properly ventilated construction of a roof in the restoration of an 'Arts and Crafts' style home are ventilation products from Glidevale. The company's VP400 vapour permeable membrane with FV250 fascia ventilators and premier eaves skirt were employed on the roof, which has a ridge length of some 70m. Helping ensure elimination of moisture from the roofspace, the Glidevale Protect VP400 vapour permeable underlay is water resistant yet gives water vapour permeability of 385g/m? every 24hrs. The fascia ventilators provide 25,000mm?/m ventilation whilst minimising the risk of fire spread to the roofspace.

Golfers keep their cool

Golfers at The Shropshire Golf Club now have improved facilities, with help from Glidevale. The popularity of the club, combined with loss of facilities following a fire, meant there was a need to extend the clubhouse. Architects TFT wanted a lower roof to make the main entrance and clubhouse the dominant feature, but also needed to ensure adequate ventilation, particularly within the warm roof. Glidevale?s Protect A1 non-permeable underlay was used under the roof covering, complemented by Premier over fascia vent, eaves skirt, cross rafter ventilators and in-line ventilators.

Protect timber frame from condensation

Claimed to be the first ?third generation? roofing underlay to be launched in the UK, Glidevale has introduced the Protect A1. The product is designed to protect homes from the risk of condensation and therefore the protection of rot in the roofs. The company says that Protect A1 is the first real alternative to type 1F roofing felt. Completely waterproof, it helps to ensure the roofspace remains dry, absorbing any condensation not removed by roof ventilation and releasing it to be expelled by the ventilation when conditions improve. Scotframe Timber Engineering, which manufactures precision engineered timber frame kits for three to six bedroomed dwellings up to 240m
2, has switched all its undertile membrane requirements at its facilities to Protect A1, supplied by Index Timber & Building Supplies.

Overcoming a lack of light

Overcoming a lack of daylight in a single storey extension due to one elevation being close to the sports hall, Sunscoop dome rooflights from Glidevale have been employed at Sale Grammar School. Claimed to allow up to three times more light inside than a comparable- sized window, Sunscoop also minimised the amount of electrical light required. The roof mounted domes ?catches? natural daylight, reflecting it down the specular silvered aluminium tube into the room below. The tube includes an ?LSD? (low sun deflector) that intercepts light even when the sun is low in the sky and would normally miss the units mirror tube.
