The Ultracom range of high efficiency combis from Glow-worm is claimed to be setting new benchmarks in product quality coupled with features and benefits for an easy installation and years of end-user trouble-free, fuel efficient use.
The Ultracom selection is available in outputs of 24, 30 and 38kW. This, says the company, is more than enough choice to suit any type, size, or character of architecture - with all featuring a back-lit programmer to allow the end-user complete control and flexibility over their heating and hot water requirements.
As boiler units the Ultra combis are described as sleek with tried and trusted reliability built into the advanced technological features, Today's busy and hectic lifestyle needs an ultra-responsive boiler which gives all that's needs at the touch of a button
Lloyd Fleming attended the first Glastonbury Festival in 1970 - with his parents. This year he fitted two Glow-worm Ultrapower 170s in the shower block on the festival site.
Guaranteeing hot water demand, the units are believed to be the highest rated boilers in the UK with SEDBUK verified score of 91.5%.
High efficiency combi-boliers are moving into their next phase of development with accessories becoming increasingly important in improving the overall ease of installation and energy control, says Glow-worm's commercial director Gareth Stringer.
The company's Flexicom boiler is said to have found favour with both installers and consumers particularly the rear flueing which is 'easier' and uncomplicated. It also fits snugly inside a kitchen wall cupboard.
A range of combination boilers is available from Glow-worm in order to meet a variety of installations.
The Flexicom 24cx and 30cx provide flexible siting and a direct rear flue option. They are compact enough to fit inside a kitchen wall cupboard and are SEDBUK A rated with a NOx class 5 rating.
High outputs are offered from the company's 24cxi, 30cxi and 38cxi boilers, with the 30cxi suitable for LPG applications without the need for a conversion kit.
Cost-efficiency can be obtained with the SEDBUK B rated Betacom combi, which is available in outputs of 24kW and 30kW.
The SEDBUK Band A rated Xtramax HE 33kW storage combi has an internal store and generates hot water whenever a tap is turned on. It can deliver 200 litres of hot water rapidly. A new floor standing version, the Ultrapower sxi boiler, is available in 100 and 170 litre outputs for large new build properties. As with the Xtramax, it has a power storage system to ensure it does not run out of hot water.
Following the NHBC's recommendation that combi boilers are limited to homes with only one bathroom, Glow-worm has introduced the Ultrapower sxi to satisfy the hot water demand for larger properties.
Launched last month as part of a domestic heating conference held by the company at its Belper offices, the floor standing high efficiency boiler provides almost endless hot water on demand.
The conference, attended by leading housebuilders, was chaired by Peter Crane, head of standards at the NHBC. It covered future trends and the changes that have been made to Technical Standards to make sure that design and installation of internal services meets the needs of today's homeowners.
Peter Crane highlighted the need for housebuilders to specify systems that would adequately meet the needs and expectations of users. He argued that in many instances a combi boiler would be unable to meet hot water demand.
The Ultrapower sxi is designed to satisfy this demand, generating hot water whenever a tap is turned on and, by drawing on the internal storage system at the same time, can rapidly deliver up to 170 litres of hot water. Unlike an indirect cylinder, it will heat the water stored in its cylinder directly, resulting in fast reheat times.
Expanding the range of boilers offered by Glow-worm are the Betacom 24 and Betacom 30 models. Both products are SEDBUK B rated and come equipped with an inbuilt timer, bypass and frost protection.
Available in either 24kW and 30kW models, there are multiple flueing options provided as well as compatibility with the company's Plume Management Kit and Condensate Pump.
With flexible siting due to its compact size, the Glow-worm Flexicom cx is the only high efficiency combination boiler that has a direct rear flue option, the company claims.
There are two SEDBUK A rated boilers in the range with 24kW and 30kW outputs available and a five second hot water response as well as respective deliveries of 9.6 l/min and 12.3 l/min at 35?C rise. Both measure 700 by 390 by 280mm.
The direct rear flue is telescopic, so there is no need to cut to length, with flueing options of 8m vertically and horizontally as well as 20m twin flue. A one-piece fixing jig ensures the hanging bracket and jig are aligned, even on uneven wall surfaces.
The new Glow-worm Flexicom High Efficiency condensing boilers are, as the name implies, amazingly flexible in terms of siting.
They are the only condensing boiler on the UK market with a direct rear flue option, the company claims. Also, surprisingly compact, so small that they can even be fitted inside a kitchen wall cupboard. Available as combi, heating only, or system boilers with outputs from 12 to 30kW the Flexicom range is designed to suit most applications and deliver the cost saving and energy conserving benefits.
Glow-worm produced its first High Efficiency condensing boiler over a decade ago and the successful xi range of condensing boilers has been available in the UK for the last four years. Designed to complement the xi range, the SEDBUK ?A? rated Flexicom condensing boiler range now gives installers a flexible product offering to suit virtually every installation type.
Ease of installation and siting flexibility are further enhanced through Glow-worm?s Plume Management Kit as well as another new accessory, the Condensate Pump. The Plume Management Kit allows more versatility in replacement or even first-fit installations as the plume can be directed away from paths, walkways etc. The Condensate Pump further improves siting options for the Flexicom range, allowing them to be installed in places with restricted access to condensate drains.
Offering a wide collection of wall hung high efficiency boilers, Glow-worm have products which can be installed in a range of applications.
The Flexicom range has two combi models in 24kW and 30kW outputs. Both offer a five second hot water response, quiet operation and can deliver 10 l/min and 12 l/min at 35?C rise.
These models measure 700mm by 390mm by 280mm. A direct rear flue option which is telescopic is available on the boilers.
The Xtramax HE boiler is Sedbuk Band A rated delivering NOx class five emissions and up to 200 litres of hot water. An internal store lets the end-user draw hot water from two or three taps at the same time. It has an inbuilt bypass, integral filling loop, two-stage frost protection and anti-seizure controls.
Within the xi range are six models which also have Sedbuk A and NOx class five ratings.
Delivering fuel savings, NOx class 5 emissions and up to 200 litres of hot water instantly, the SEDBUK A rated 33kW Xtramax HE high performance storage combi has been introduced by Glow-worm.
Capable of delivering all the heating and hot water requirements for a large family home, the Xtramet HE combines useable hot water on demand with an internal store that lets the end-user draw hot water from two or three taps at the same time.
According to Glow-worm it delivers enough water for three baths, far more than a conventional boiler. Furthermore, it can recover after just four minutes.
Fitted as standard to the unit is an inbuilt bypass, integral filling loop, two stage frost protection and anti-siezure controls.
Newly available from Glow-worm is a full range of cylinders for use on unvented domestic water systems.
The range comes in a variety of capacities for different types of properties.
It features a high grade stainless steel with laser welded seams which allows for a 25 year guarantee against perforation of the shell. Six sizes are available, ranging from 115 to 300 litres.
Energy efficiency is enhanced by insulation which achieves heat loss of 1.7kW per 24 hours and a high recovery heating coil provides recovery in 20 minutes. The 22mm DHW outlet and cold water mains inlet give optimum flow rates.
Enhancing siting flexibility on its range of High Efficiency domestic heating boilers, Glow-worm has launched a condensate pump addition to its Flexicom range.
Once it is connected, the condensate from the boiler is fed into the pump where it is stored. When the fill-level is reached, the reservoir pump discharges the condensate. An overflow safety switch shuts the boiler down if overfilled, and the pump's LED display goes red to indicate a fault.
Suitable for sites where the installation site is remote from the waste drainage system, the pump allows the condensate to be pumped upwards into the waste system. As condensate is stored within the pump until the fill level is reached, the pump operates efficiently rather than as a continuous operation.
Designed to offer the ultimate in flexible siting, Glow-worm has introduced the Flexicom range of high efficiency condensing boilers. Available as combi, heating only or system boilers, the range offers outputs from 12 to 30kW.
The company claims that the new range is the only condensing boiler on the UK market to offer a direct rear flue option. It also offers the smallest installation footprint in its class, enabling it to be fitted inside a kitchen wall cupboard.
The rear flue option has been facilitated by a redesign of the heat exchanger, allowing it to be sited differently in the boiler's housing. Automotive grade cast aluminium is used for the heat exchanger which, as well as allowing its redesign, provides corrosion resistance and tolerance to debris. This tolerance to debris means that, alongside the rear flue option, the Flexicom range is suitable for both new build and replacement projects where the system may be dirty.
As well as the rear flue, the range is also available with horizontal, vertical or twin options, and all are telescopic, which means that they do not have to be cut to length.
Increasing functionality, each of the SEDBUK A rated boilers feature a new LCD display, allowing simple adjustment to achieve the desired temperature.
Installed in a luxury apartment in Dorset, a Glow-worm 24cxi high efficiency condensing combi boiler is replacing one of the company's Ultimate 100 fan flued appliances.
The cxi range is available in 24, 30 and 38kW versions. Hot water is produced from the stainless steel plate exchanger at flow rates of up to 15.5 l/m at 35?C for the 38cxi model. A pre-heat facility gives a five-second hot water response while still maintaining quiet operation. A one-piece pre-fixing jig allows gas and water pipework to be connected prior to installation.
The boilers are fully modulating and come with pump, expansion vessel and safety discharge valve. The 30 cxi model is factory set to operate on natural gas and the gas valve can be adjusted in commissioning for this purpose.
Some 1,000 Glow-worm high efficiency boilers are being installed as part of the largest single replacement project ever undertaken by the Riviera Housing Trust - a South West England social housing provider. Around 900 properties throughout the Torbay, Devon, area are to receive replacement heating systems, which will ensure compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations. Riviera Housing specified Glow-worm hxi condensing heating only boilers and cxi condensing combi models. They were chosen for their reliability as, with a programme of this size, the association cannot afford to go back and forth to a customer's home because of problems. All models in the hxi heating only range achieve a SEDBUK A and a NOx class 5 rating. These, along with the cxi and sxi models have a small case size and can sit almost anywhere in a property.
Six new models of stainless steel hot water storage cylinders for use on unvented systems are to be introduced by Glow-worm. Representing the company?s desire to provide the installer with a complete domestic heating boiler and hot water solution, the new models are available in 115, 125, 175, 200, 250 and 300 litre sizes. They are designed to suit any type of residential property, from single bathroom dwellings to large properties.
Following research suggesting stainless steel rates best with installers,Glow-worm has opted for stainless steel heat exchangers for its range of SEDBUK ?A? boilers. As well as a perception of quality, stainless steel offers no water-side corrosion, minimal gas-side corrosion, less cleaning and lighter weight.
For installations which require a sealed system solution Glowworm offer the 18 and 30xsi models, designed for high efficiency domestic heating. Both boilers are Sedbuk A rated and have NOx class 5 rating, the best possible for low emissions. They are both small, light and include enough flueing capability to site ?almost anywhere?. On board diagnostics aid servicing, while the ?Continua? electronics will allow the boiler to continue running when others may fail due to system faults, the company claims. Fitted as standard are by-pass, frost protection and anti-seize controls.
Available in three models (24, 30 and 38kW) Glow-worm has introduced the cxi range of condensing combi boilers. The Sedbuk A rated and low NOx boiler range features a hot water ?pre-heat? facility that provides a five-second hot water response. The stainless steel heat exchanger on cxi models produces a minimum 9.8l/min, 12.3l/min and 15.5l/min of hot water at 35?C temperature rise. Flueing options allow greater flexibility in installation of the boilers, while a pre-fixing jig allows all gas and water pipe work to be connected prior to full installation. A large 10m horizontal and 10m vertical flueing is available on all models, plus 40m twin flue capability. The boilers are fully modulating and, once commissioned, onboard diagnostics provide information in the event of a failure.

Available as an accessory, Glowworm is introducing a coverplate that fits as a panel on the underside of its hxi range of boilers. Developed as a response to customer feedback, it is painted white and clips in place to complete the finish of the unit.
An adjustment at installation is all that is required to activate the LPG conversion option which has been added to the 30sxi domestic heating system boiler from Glow-worm. The installer makes a simple gas valve adjustment. The 30sxi, 30kW high efficiency condensing system boiler has achieved SEDBUK A and gained NOx 5 rating. Features include on-board diagnostics, inbuilt by pass, anti-seize controls and the company?s ?continua? electronics.
