Local handling specialists Hiab has opened a depot in Wisbech to provide mounting services, general servicing and sales support for customers in East Anglia. The move follows the unexpected closure of its local agent which had been previously responsible for providing a full range of services. The company has leased its former agents premises, purchased their service vans and tools and re-employed the staff to ensure, says managing director Ismo Leppanen: 'Our customers continue to receive technical support and service'.

Facilitating the mixing of cement on site in large quantities, Zetterbergs, part of Hiab, has introduced the Multilift which allows the transportation of silos and powder tanks. The logistics system means that traditional mixer lorries need not be used and with timings and quantities being less critical, there is less waste as cement can be mixed in precisely the right quantities. Each silo is transported horizontally and with use of the Multilift system is manoeuvred 90 degrees to an upright position where it is connected to water, ready to deliver mixed mortar.
