Views across Bristol from a high specification five-storey building have been complemented by a rooftop garden fitted with products from HLD's Octawood collection.
The product portfolio is made from kiln dried, pressure impregnated European Redwood, which is guaranteed for 25 years against rotting, fungi and insect attack.
Timber balconies from HLD Timber Engineering have been applied to a redevelopment of a house in Wokingham. The project consists of three levels of softwood timber decking balcony structures, using European Redwood. Support is provided by laminated timber posts eight metres high and the structure is bolted back to the fascia. The deck boards meet BS4978:1996 and strength class C16.
Timber products from HLD Timber Engineering have been applied at the Ropetackle waterfront development in West Sussex.
The company supplied its European Redwood timber products for standard and cantilever 'Juliet' style balconies. Ground decking and a balustrade to other areas have also been supplied and installed by the company. Boards are treated with a copper based preservative, a wax additive to improve water repelance, and then kiln re-dried to atmospheric moisture content.
Erected using volunteers at a Foresty Commission site in County Durham, HLD has supplied six kit bridges as part of a ?200,000 project to create a mountain bike training area and trail in Hamsterley Forest.
The bridges used timber that is FSC certified and was treated using 'more environmentally friendly' chemicals.
The company supplied two bridges measuring 5m long and 1.5m wide, together with another one at 4m by 1.8m, one at 5m by 1.8m and a 6m by 1.8m structure. The largest bridge was curved at 10m long and 1.5m wide.
All of the structures have 1.4m high ranch rail balustrades made from FSC certified European Redwood. As the product was simple to put together, it was possible for volunteers to erect them.
Two steel and timber footbridges have been supplied by HLD as part of the long-term re-design of the grounds at Endsleigh Insurance headquarters. The 8.7 and 5m long bridges span a man-made lake to form the main pedestrian route to the building. The Causeway-style of the bridges reflected the Lutyens-style offices and the surrounding landscape. A range of products is available from the company for residential and commercial projects.
Decking for St Katharine Docks, close to Tower Bridge in London, has been supplied and installed by HLD. K2, the latest development at the historical site, includes a new piazza and complex boardwalk incorporating curved and straight areas. Some 400m? of timber has been used for the boardwalk, which fronts the Quay level shopping space and overlooks the marina. HLD's Antislip Plus deck board system has been installed, incorporating three tapered resin bonded aggregate grip strips per board to give a symmetrical coverage of slip resistance around the curved area. The straight boardwalk area is cantilevered off the existing dock wall. It is primarily a steel structure with timber joints and decking. The decking timbers and bearers are an FSC certified species from South America.
Decking for the restaurant balcony at Draycote Water in Warwickshire has been supplied by HLD. The balcony is a popular feature of the visitor centre, providing views across the Draycote Water. For health and safety reasons, the client specified HLD's Antislip Plus boards. Each of the 34mm deep by 145mm wide boards incorporates two resin-bonded aggregate strips to enhance grip. Whilst slippery boards can be hazardous or even impassable to anybody with mobility imparement, Antislip Plus is designed to provide a firm, safe surface, helping the restaurant comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.
After 40 years of helping conserve wildlife in the East Midlands, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has its first visitor centre?with cladding and decking coming from HLD. Both of these elements are made from natural oak timber. This material was chosen because of its durability compared with untreated softwood products. All of the oak used for the cladding and decking is from sustainable sources to comply with the project?s environmental requirements. As well as the cladding, the company supplied Antislip Plus deck boards recommended for commercial deck applications.
