RIBA award-winning Attenborough Nature Reserve, a state-of-the-art eco-friendly building located in Nottingham, is successfully using Howe Green's Visedge range of floor covers to gain access to its mechanical systems.
Funding was obtained from, among others, the East Midlands Development Agency to build the exemplar eco-friendly facility.
Over 200 Visedge floor panels have been supplied by Howe Green for Romford's new state-of-the-art 939-bed Queen's Hospital, to provide easy yet tamper-proof access to vital underfloor services.
With the hospital floors set to be subject to heavy foot traffic, a heavy duty and tamper-resistant access solution was required. Such floor planels enable essential access to concealed pipes and cables, as well as building services including IT, heating and water supply.
Fitted quickly and unobtrusively, the covers are double-sealed to meet high standards of hygiene and security and are corrosion and maintenance-free. Engineered for use with flexible sheet flooring systems, the covers also provide 'stiletto-proof' resistance.
The Visedge series also allows the sheet flooring to be locked to the frame sections.
Winner of a RIBA award for its high architectural standards, the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea features hundreds of Howe Green's floor access covers.
Inside the museum visitors can take a journey through the industrial revolution and its impact on Wales and its people, as well as a look a how the region is pushing the boundaries of science, manufacturing and medicine.
To enable access to a wealth of underfloor services at the museum, a record number of 7500 series aluminium floor covers were supplied for the project.
Able to deal with the expected 250,000 visitors a year, the heavy duty access covers are tamper resistant. Fitting flush with their surround, they feature slim line aluminium showedges for a clean and crisp finish.
Access covers designed to be used with flexible sheet flooring systems have been developed by Howe Green.
Suitable for heavily trafficked public areas, commercial kitchens and production areas, the Visedge series features a double seal designed to create a positive seal to drainage, electrical and other ducts. It also has crimped corners to allow the cover and frame to lie completely flat.
The product allows sheet flooring, which can include pvc or linoleum, to be locked to the frame sections and hot welded to the surface rather than glued. This creates a permanent joint and eliminates any water ingress and peeling. Manufactured in aluminium and stainless steel, the covers are durable and non-rusting.
Designed to access concealed services, Combihatch has been launched by Howe Green. The new cover has an electro-galvanised mild steel frame and door, matt powder coated and ready primed to accept a paint finish.
Either a budget or high security lock can be fitted to the hinged door, while the outer frames will incorporate a plaster bead or a picture frame surround. For walls, covers can be single or double leaf and either non-fire rated or with one hour fire rating. The minimum cut out size is 306mm, increasing in any size up to 1032 by 606 by 762mm.
Sizes are similar for ceilings, with covers available in non-fire rated single or double leaf and one hour rated in single leaf.
Creating entrance barrier mattings specific to individual colours, design accent and patterns, with the ability to create logos and corporate branding, can be achieved by Freeform from Howe Green. It is manufactured using high density scraping yarns with fine polyamide 6.6 yarns, enabling moisture retention.
Manufacturer of aluminium and stainless steel floor and wall access hatches, Howe Green has developed a wide range of entrance barrier matting. As well as over 12 available ranges, in a collection of different colours and designs, the products are designed to meet the Disability Discrimation Act.
Stainless steel and aluminium access covers from Howe Green have been installed in a Shopping Centre in Cork, Ireland. The products were specified for performance under heavy foot traffic. Fitting flush with the floor, the covers are hermetically double-sealed and resistant to corrosion, the ingress of dirt, water or cleaning fluids.
Some 50 purpose made Howe Green floor access covers have been used in the refurbishment of the Piazza at the NEC Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Specified and installed by DMC Tiling, the aluminium covers have been laid within the terrazzo floors to provide safe and easy access to underfloor services.
As the Piazza is subjected to heavy foot traffic, the covers had to be strong yet aesthetically compatible with the floor and interior design.
The company's 7500 Series floor access covers withstand up to five tonnes pneumatic tyre load-bearing capacity. A choice of showedges in aluminium, brass, stainless steel or coloured pvc is available.
Covers are made to order in single units, continuous ducts, or multi-part configurations for use with any type of hard floor or floorcovering. They fit flush with the floor avoiding any potential trip hazard. Hermetically double-sealed to meet hygiene standards, they are resistant to corrosion and dirt ingress.
Specified by engineers at Paddington Station, curved covers from Howe Green have been installed on the platform to access the subfloor duct and services.
Fabricated from stainless steel, the covers were designed to match the platform curvature. They were made to a depth of 110mm to house the anti-slip studded slabs and fit flush with the platform, avoiding trips and falls.
Floor access covers from Howe Green have been used in the refurbishment of the Brewer Building by Putney Bridge. The 5000 series aluminium and Visedge covers were placed on the ground floor and nursery areas. It was important to use covers flush to the floor to avoid trip hazards, especially where young children play, and so bonding and welding provided a permanent, safe joint that was water-resistant too.
Wall access covers in the Waldor range from Howe Green are now available made to order, virtually to any size, in a range of fire-resistant or non fire-resistant types. When closed, the covers are said to be 'virtually indistinguishable? within the finished wall surface. All covers are easy to install, left- or right-hung, and are removable. They have either a conventional key lock or concealed push/pull catch. They complement Tile-a-Door+, a hinged panel for smaller openings in tiled walls.
Now providing access when used with the latest versions of vinyl, the Visedge access cover has been upgraded by Howe Green. Installed by bonding and welding provides an impermeable and permanent joint which is flush to the floor and water-resistant. The only visible part in the floor is the aluminium showedge.
Floor cover manufacturers Howe Green has launchedahinged cover to provide access to underfloor services and electrics. The HSE 75 series requires a force of just 20kg to open, an advantage for applications where health and safety is a concern.
Some 30 Howe Green floor access covers have been installed at Cambridge University. In the foyer at Cambridge, the covers are designed to fit the stone floor module and are inset with stone to blend in inconspicuously. Elsewhere, such as in the lecture halls, where poser is required for displays or demonstrations, the covers include hinged cable flaps. When closed, the cover is completely flush, safe underfoot and blends in with the surrounding maple wood floor. Largely made of stainless steel for corrosion resistance, the covers are easy to open and double sealed to prevent ingress of dirt or cleaning fluids.
Accessing the inaccessible may not be every specifier's daily concern but it certainly affects the design of the floor and the performance of undertloor services. Howe Green's new Specification Guide to Floor Access Covers explains precisely how performance and aesthetics can be combined with purpose-made covers for use with every type of hard floor or flexible floorcovering. We manufacture covers from the smallest power points to the largest runs - plus access hatches for tiled walls. Tel 01992 554388 or visit www.howegreen.co.uk
Floor access covers from Howe Green have been used at a Renault showroom near Guildford to allow access to cable outlets. Here, a simple but flexible arrangement of floor covers was required for periodic access to data and power outlets in the display area and strong enough to take the weight of cars. Each of the purpose-made covers comprises an aluminium outlet box with recessed lid, into which a section of tiles has been inset and aligned.
