Large format looks good

Large format looks goodTechStyle is a large format suspended ceiling from Hunter Douglas, launched to meet what the firm has identified as the demand for high-performance acoustic absorption, coupled with improved appearance. The lightweight and fire-resistant system sets a new standard for ceiling design, claims Hunter Douglas, by using panels which are up to eight times larger than normal. This means the amount of visible suspension is significantly reduced, which improves the appearance of the ceiling and enhances the overall feeling of space for users. The hollow polyester and glass fibre panels are claimed to be very effective at absorbing high levels of sound, which can dramatically enhance occupants' concentration levels and productivity. Another benefit of the new system is the enhanced light reflection properties of the product's flat white surface, which can reduce the need for artificial lighting.

Yellow poplar ceiling makes waves at Abingdon pool

Yellow poplar ceiling makes waves at Abingdon poolA Luxalon suspended solid wood linear ceiling designed in the shape of a wave has been created over the swimming pool area of Abingdon Sports Centre in Oxfordshire. The ceiling was designed by architect Buttress, Fuller, Alsop and Williams and was supplied by Hunter Douglas Projects ceiling division. The ceiling consists of 700 m2 of American Yellow Poplar timber slats in a linear open system, fitted with a non woven acoustic fleece with additional acoustic material fixed at the higher levels. The incorporation of a series of Glulam beams positioned at three metre intervals made for an interesting interaction with the wood ceiling and added to the aesthetic appeal.
