Yellow poplar ceiling makes waves at Abingdon pool
A Luxalon suspended solid wood linear ceiling designed in the shape of a wave has been created over the swimming pool area of Abingdon Sports Centre in Oxfordshire. The ceiling was designed by architect Buttress, Fuller, Alsop and Williams and was supplied by Hunter Douglas Projects ceiling division.
The ceiling consists of 700 m2 of American Yellow Poplar timber slats in a linear open system, fitted with a non woven acoustic fleece with additional acoustic material fixed at the higher levels.
The incorporation of a series of Glulam beams positioned at three metre intervals made for an interesting interaction with the wood ceiling and added to the aesthetic appeal.
