HandKey hand geometry readers produced by Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies have been installed throughout the Maghaberry Prison in Northern Ireland. The company says that, before installation, the prison had to rely on guards with keys at every access point to monitor pedestrian traffic. The HandKey biometric technology has provided many benefits including being cost effective and allowing guards to operate more flexibility. The readers are understood to be connected to the prisons computer system allowing staff to monitor each access point and its activity.
