Home improvement celebrity Tommy Walsh has just completed the finishing touches to his impressive 19th Century home with a little help from timber and panel products distributor James Latham. The company supplied Tommy with a quantity of European Oak, which he used to build an outstanding 'barrel formation' staircase which begins on the ground floor with a 'monkey's tail' before stretching up over five storeys, incorporating turns and rises. In addition, Tommy specified 90m² of rustic Oak flooring incorporating a Wenge 'black' inlay which he used throughout the hallway, first floor lounge area and kitchen.Tommy said he was delighted with the way it had turned out.

UK timber and panel products distributor, James Latham, has begun stocking UPM's WISA-FJ-Lam. The product is intended for joinery manufacturers as it is a semi-finished component ideal, the company says, for use in timber windows and doors. It is made from joinery-grade Redwood that is defect-optimised and finger-jointed.

A semi-finished component designed for joinery manufacturers and suitable for use in timber windows is now being stocked by James Latham. WISA-FJ-Lam is made from Finnish redwood and is available in a range of sizes with a maximum length of 6.0m, width of 150mm, and thickness of 900mm.

European Oak, from James Latham, has been provided to Bastion Security Installations for the refurbishment of a magistrates' court. The company required 4m? of rough sawn stock and 10m? of various machined sections to manufacture benches, desks and decorative panelling. European Oak is straight grained and moderately durable.

For the refurbishment of a school in Derbyshire, James Latham supplied 16 sheets of LG HI-MACS solid surface product in Almond Pearl and 11 sinks in two different designs. The products were specified for the Da Vinci Community College in Derby with the sheets providing a bespoke solution as well as a specialist hygiene certificate.

The door blanks are made with a three layer tri-laminated hardwood timber core, which assists in eliminating gaps. Birch plywood is hard-wearing and easy to maintain. Rustic oak Bausen flooring has been supplied by James Latham for construction of a new bar at the Xscape ski/snowboard complex in Castleford, UK. Designed, constructed, and part-owned by Sykes, The Loft bar and nightclub has been provided with 120 panels of Bausen. The venue spans 5000ft over two floors, with the company's wooden floors alongside leather sofas and exposed brick walls to create a modern atmosphere. The product was chosen due to the close working relationship between Sykes and the company. Bausen was considered suitable for the project, and with Canadian maple and American black walnut flooring, the oak can be applied in the hospitality and leisure sectors.

The facility is aimed at providing BWF Certifire Doors sets manufactured to size and with or without glazed apertures, complete with hardwood frames. Organised by the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development, the Homes for Good exhibition takes place between 17 and 19 February at the Somerset College of Arts and Technology in Taunton. It is a non-profit event which aims to show how buildings can be designed, built, decorated and furnished in a sustainable way. The event includes demonstrations and presentations, allowing businesses to promote their products and services. It is specifically geared to helping smaller businesses get a foot-hold in this developing market.

Timber and Panel distributor James Latham is providing materials for the construction of a two-way elliptical roof at The Crown Estate's new visitor centre at the Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park. The 100m roof will feature a solid Larch grid system. Each grid will flex in three axes to give the roof its form. Birch plywood will be placed in strips over the top of the grid to brace and stiffen the structure.

Manufactured by LG Chem, the four new shades are from the LG HI-MACS Solid Colours collection, ideal for adding a contemporary twist to a host of interior surfaces including bathrooms, kitchens, and work spaces. LG HI-MACS works well aesthetically and practically with materials such as natural wood and brushed stainless steel. It is a non-porus material and is designed for surfaces subject to moisture and heavy wear.
