A new tubular handrail system from kee klamp

Reading-based Kee Klamp has helped Islington Council comply with the Disability Discrimination Act with a new tubular handrail system at Whittington Park, created using components from its 500 series. The new handrailing has been fitted alongside an access ramp at the Park's recently built football pitch.
Over 65m of handrailing has been fitted, using a size 7 tube which is powder coated to meet the 'not cold to the touch' requirements of the DDA.

Easing the toes

To ease the installation of rooftop toeboards, an aluminium extrusion has been designed by Kee Klamp for use with the company's KeeGuard system.
Designed to fit at the foot of the main upright, a grooved design allows the component to be slid into place before it is bolted into position to a Kee Klamp Type 69 fitting at the base of the upright post.

Enforcing the law with handrailing

Meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, Kee Klamp's 500 series fittings have been used to construct a new handrail structure at Llanelli County Court in Wales.
The fittings are finished in a silver-grey RAL colour for visibility to the visually-impaired user and to provide a surface that is not cold to the touch.
Part M of the Building Regulations is met by the structure, as the outside diameter of 42.4mm conforms with guidelines stating it should be between 40-45mm. The range can be used as a retrofit solution as it includes a split fitting that allows a new handrail to be added onto an existing structure of appropriate size.

Roof edge protection

Installed on the roof of a halls of residence at the University College London is Kee Klamp's KeeGuard roof edge protection system.
The KeeGuard system is free-standing, working on a counterweight principle. Supplied in a pre-fabricated kit form, the assembly modules are connected together using 28.3mm tubing. These fittings are locked onto the tube using a hex key.

Safety with special needs

Ensuring safety standards at St Ann's Special Needs School in Ealing, the Keenect balustrading system from Kee Klamp has been installed.
Used on the staircase inside the school, the system incorporates perspex infill panels, hinged and lockable gates, and extended bays. It is fully modular, using parts comprising handrail connectors and post top joints. A handrail connector is inserted into the handrail when a change of direction is required with any combination of elbows able to be attached.

Access for the disabled at Swindon centre

Helping Swindon Health Centre meet the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), a new tubular handrail system from Kee Klamp, created using the company's 500 Series, has been installed.
Fittings from the range have been used to construct a new guard and handrailing structure beside a crossing point for disabled visitors at the main entrance to the centre.
The installation fulfils Part M of the Building Regulations which recommends an outside diameter tube size of between 40mm and 45mm. It is designed to have a handrail with size 7 tube. Fittings in the series can be powder coated and provided in RAL colours to meet the visibility and the 'not cold to the touch' requirements of the DDA.

Lesson in safety

In a project to improve safety, Kee Klamp has provided its pedestrian safety guardrailing at Paxton Primary School in South East London. The railing runs along two new ramp walkways from the street, over a 90m distance. Featured on the structure are vertical black in-fill bars for visibility and yellow offset handrailing at child and wheelchair height. Slope fittings offer a strong connection.

Protection from the fall

For use around skylights, rooflights and domelights up to 2m by 2m in size, Kee Klamp has launched the Kee Dome, a collective, free standing, fall-protection solution.
The system features components that can be rapidly assembled. These include vertical posts, hand and knee rails with associated 90? corner connectors and pvc feet. Adjustable clamping rings are used to fix the feet to the corners of the rooflight base. Once it is constructed, a horizontal load of 300N/m is provided with full compliance to rooftop safety legislation.

Railing against discrimination

Reading-based Kee Klamp has extended its 500 range so that specifiers can meet the non-discriminatory access requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act and Building Regulations Part M:2004.
Included in the range are two new fittings, complete with an integral weatherproof cap, for connection either to single or dual handrails. These can be installed at any required angle. A further new fitting offers a midpoint connection to dual handrails, when required, and the company has introduced a one piece 90? corner elbow fitting. An outside diameter of 42.4mm fits with DDA requirements.
The range can be used on new structures or retrofitted, with ability to be augmented with other fittings from the company.

In line with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), Kee Klamp is assisting Luton Borough Council ensure the safety of visitors to the Memorial Park Bowling Green. An installation of a handrailing system was constructed using fittings from the company's 500 Series.
The range is designed to give a handrail with size seven tube and an outside diameter of 42.4mm. It comprises a total of 15 fittings in a choice of RAL colours to meet the visibility and 'not cold to the touch' requirements of the DDA. It includes an offset fitting which allows a new handrail to be added onto an existing structure.

Clamping down

Manufactured in lightweight, corrosion resistant aluminium, the L70 fitting from Kee Klamp enables handrails to be fixed to walls and partitions. It can also be used to attach kickboards to the base of guardrail uprights. Made from Aluminium Silicon Magnesium alloy for durability in harsh environments, the fitting is designed for use with standard size 6, 7, or 8 diameter tube.

Hospital prescribes health check on roof

Health and safety for rooftop workers at a Hospital in Buckinghamshire is being provided by a KeeGuard roof edge protection system from Kee Klamp.
The installation extends over 230 linear metres across the roof of the Hospital's two storey building, and it is the first to feature the company's saddle fitting. This allows the system's horizontal guardrail to be placed in the saddle of the open fitting rather than through it, before being secured with a grub screw.
The system remains compliant with EN 14122 for permanent barriers. It comprises of three components: a main upright, a counterbalance and a free end assembly when no wall fixing is available. All assemblies are designed for use with 42.4 and 48.3 o/d diameter tubing and fittings from the range.

Fittings drive success of golf centre

Fittings from Kee Klamp have provided the versatility necessary for the construction of 48 new driving range bays at the TopGolf Game Centre in Addlestone, Surrey. Specified as an alternative to pre-fabricated framing, the fittings help create tubular structures which divide up the internal driving bay areas and provide support for seating, poster frames and signage. The variety of fittings and their compatibility with different tube sizes ensures that the arrangement of framing required for the functionality of the scheme could be achieved. Also, as the range includes special crank and end fittings, there was no need for any one-off fabrications. All fittings were powder coated with no on-site finishing required.

Secure and safe balconies created for London estate

In a joint venture with Circle 33 Housing Group, Kee Klamp has assisted in creating secure, effective and ?family friendly? balcony guardrailing at the Leybridge Court development in London. The estate features over 130 flats contained within a series of three 1970s build blocks. Many have balconies where the original balustrading was falling into disrepair, and identified to be in need of wholesale replacement. Kee Klamp has supplied fittings from its extensive range for the quick and easy assembly of each new balcony structure. The project team has connected the tubular structures together to feature forward-facing aluminium perforated panels with Perforated Powder Coated in-fill panels at each end. Fittings from the company can be used in a wide variety of applications ? from guardrailing to display systems and playground climbing equipment.

Easy fitting guardrailing

Dual-purpose guardrailing from Kee Klamp has been provided to the refurbishment of a viaduct on St Martins Way in Chester.
Designed for use with removable uprights, the company's Ground Socket fittings set at 1.75m intervals along the edge of the bridge deck. They are now a permanent feature of the newly cast concrete plinth, which provides workmen with access during future maintenance. The fittings enabled the assembly of a temporary guardrailing structure to protect against falls.
The type 66 Ground Socket fitting incorporates an integral screw for secure locking of the tube, eliminating the need for welding. A standard hex ratchet and tube cutters are the only tools required to create the rigid structures.
