Keim Mineral Paints have been used by Helena Housing Association on various estates in St Helens to refurbish existing properties. The major problem was of carbon staining on the exterior of the pebbledash render which is a result ofthe towns history and growth based on coalming and heavy industry.
Since these industries have been declining St. Helens has been developing new industries while also introducing rejuvenation programmes. Keim Mineral Paints say that Heleba Housing Association has completed a 4-year paint programme with Keim Mineral Paints. The programme involved a number of the Association's buildings being refurbished in order to promote well being and boost area pride.

When the University of Glasgow opted to expand and create two buildings for its medical research centre, Keim Mineral Paints was specified to provide the coatings for the outer walls of the new cardiovascular and biomedical research centres.
The company's Concretal Lasur is said to have been used on the new concrete walls of the atrium in order to harmonise the finish of the exposed concrete whilst retaining the natural look and feel of the concrete as a feature of the atrium design.
With the highly sensitive nature of the work undertaken in the centre, it was also important to minimise disruption from general maintenance and Keim's extreme long life performance is said to ensure reduced repainting cycles as well as whole life costing benefits.
Keim Concretal Lasur is a low pigmentation colour stain and is available in a wide range of shades which can be used when an opaque treatment would be out of keeping with the concrete aesthetics. It is able to unify variations in colour and texture of concrete, whilst retaining its look.
The long life nature of the paint, say Keim, is derived from the chemical crystalline bond which the paint forms with the substrate, maintaining breathability, whilst withstanding exposure to severe weather conditions. It is said to be resistant to algae and mould growth, completely lightfast, inherently non-combustible and environmentally friendly, being odourless, solvent and VOC-free, and made using only natural materials.
Keim Mineral Paints has been chosen for a major extension to Mendip Green School in Somerset.
The paints were specified for their environmentally friendly properties. Their microcrystalline structure is said to maintain breathability, allowing any moisture in the substrate to escape and ensures a long-life performance of 15 years.
Waterborne and solvent free Keim Mineral Paint have been extensively used at Liverpool's award winning St Francis of Assisi academy. Around 15,000m have been decorated using the company's paints which are breathable allowing water vapour to pass from the substrate and therefor gradually reduce the moisturer of the building and thereby the energy required for heating.
During the refurbishment of the former public swimming baths in Bacup, Lancashire, Keim Mineral Paints have been applied to the murals of a children's play area on the site.
The paint system has a long life due to its micro-crystalline structure, which forms a chemical bond with the substrate. Paints are also resistant to acid and alkaline conditions, light fast, environmentally friendly, odourless, mould resistant, non-combustible, solvent and VOC free. They are produced using only natural inorganic materials.
A granital system was used which has opacity and can cover black areas with white paint.
West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative have completed a refurbishment project of 72 dwellings using Keim Mineral Paints to eliminate mould and algae on the exterior facades.
The mineral paints form a microcrystalline bond with the substrate and can withstand severe weather conditions and the ingress of driving rain. Environmental credentials are provided as the paints are water-based, solvent free and non-allergenic.
Situated on an historic bridge over the river Dee, the Royal Hotel has recently undergone an extensive restoration programme including the use of Keim Mineral Paints for the exterior redecoration.
The company's Universal render was employed to resurface the deteriorated exterior. It comprises a hydraulic lime and white cement binder with sand and mineral fibre fillers and is suitable for the reinstatement of existing facades. The hotel was then painted with the Keim Royalan system.
Refurbishment to the exterior of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton has been achieved by the use of products from Keim Mineral Products.
The company was chosen for its products which are longlife and weather resistant, which was particularly suitable for an exposed coastal location. Royalan was used on the exterior facades and for previously painted staircases. It is a mineral silicate based paint system developed to withstand climatic conditions. A microcrystalline bond is formed with the mineral substrate to which it is applied. It is breathable, resistant to the ingress of driven rain, and resistant to atmospheric pollution
To retain the character of its fa?ade, the Playhouse Theatre in London is being redecorated using Keim Mineral Paints. The company's Granital system was chosen for its longlife durability. This is achieved by the paint forming a chemical microcrystalline bond with the substrate, becoming an integral part of the surface. It allows moisture vapour to pass through while preventing the ingress of rain.
Launched by Keim Mineral Paints is the Ecotec, a solvent free hydrocarbon concentrate with a silicone micro-emulsion base.
The product is a colourless water repellent for either internal or external use on new and existing painted mineral substrates. It is solvent free and requires only dilution with water to make it ready for application. With a matt finish, it does not change colour or appearance of the substrate, making it suitable for the protection of fair-faced concrete which is used in its natural finish as a design feature.
Because the product coats the pores of the substrate rather than filling the holes, it has good surface penetration and is water vapour permeable whilst retaining its water repellency.
A benefit of the system is that it can be used in confined spaces without the need for breathing apparatus or extraction equipment because it is solvent free and environmentally friendly. It gives good alkaline stability and can be used as a dust suppressant for concrete.
After recognising the need for addressing the fire safety aspect of the redecoration of common access areas in it's housing stock, Wolverhampton Landlord Services has specified Keim Mineral Paints' new MX fire retardant system for usage on its continuing refurbishment programme. The two coat system involves a base coat of the company's Fire Resisting Granital and a finishing coat of MX glaze to upgrade the previously painted surfaces. The product is imcombustible, and does not give off noxious emissions during a fire, while the MX glaze offers wear, grafitti, mould, and algae resistance.
Finishing and protecting large areas of exposed concrete and other mineral substrates at the new Parliament building are products from Keim Mineral Paints. Keim Granital was specified for its non-combustibility and dense opaque coverage for 5,000m? of fair faced concrete and concrete block basement walls. Major concrete elements were treated with Keim Lotexan to improve water repellance and Keim Concretal Lasur was used to minimise colour variation.
Albion Riverside, an exclusive new development on the south bank of the Thames between Battersea and Albert Bridges, features Keim Mineral Paints on both its external and internal surfaces. Keim Concretal Lasur was used to harmonise the finished concrete whilst retaining its ?as struck? look and to ease maintenance. The company?s Lotexan water repellent finish was also used to protect the 7.5m V shaped columns (which form a colonnade route through the building) from dirt in communal areas without affecting the appearance of the concrete.
As part of the Glasgow Balbeg Street regeneration programme, Keim Mineral Paints have been specified for their long life performance. The system was assessed as requiring a 15-20 year repaint cycle, compared to five years with conventional masonry paints. This is achieved by the paint forming a chemical bond with the substrate and becoming part of the surface.

Both external and internal applications at the Albion Riverside development on the River Thames have benefited from products from Keim Mineral Paints. The company?s Concretal Lasur has been used on the outside to harmonise with the finished concrete, with Lotexan water repellent finish used on the V shaped columns which form a grand colonnade route through the building.
