When the owner and developer of Point House in West Sussex wanted to give his dream property a roof to remember, he chose Keymer Tiles.
To add the finishing touch, Gwilym Ashworth used Keymer’s hand made products to turn both the roof and exterior walls into eye catching features that really set the buildings apart.
Traditional Elizabethan coloured plain tiles were used to give the roofs a classic look, while club-shaped Wealden Red ornamental tiles were hung around the main house in bands. In total, more than 40,000 Keymer products were used.
Mr Ashworth said: 'I chose Keymer tiles because of the quality of its hand-made products, which truly look fantastic.'
Hand made tiles from Keymer have been Applied to a Grade 2 listed twin kiln Oast and separate barn conversion in East Sussex.
Locally produced using Wealden clay, the tiles complemented the surroundings to deliver an authentic design. Each tile is hand made using Wealden clay dug from the company's own pits. They are produced in three colours - heritage, priory and downs red.
The Shire range was used on the barn renovation. It is hand made -but is available at a lower price - and weathers naturally over time. Over 80,000 tiles were used on this project, and were specified in a mixture of the three colours. A handprint of the maker is on the reverse of each tile to show its individual manufacturing.
