Rating systems attacks carbon monoxide

As long as the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) is properly applied it could at last address carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning in homes, claims Kidde Frynetics.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is identified as one of the 29 hazards listed in HHSRS, which replaces the fitness standard as an element of Decent Homes. It applies to both public and private sector housing.
For CO, properly sited and maintained detectors of a suitable type are considered an 'ideal' in HHSRS and a lack of alarms cited as one of the 'relevant matters' affecting the likelihood and harm outcome.
Kidde Frynetics believes that the installation of CO alarms could substantially reduce a possible hazard, at a much lower cost than other remedial measures.

Whole protection with interconnection

Hard-wired C0 alarms from Kidde Fyrnetics interconnect with the company's smoke and heat alarms, using the 'Smart Interconnect' facility, for better audibility and whole house protection.
The alarms have a circular design, suitable for wall or ceiling mounting, incorporating fins which assist air flow to the sensor.
When a smoke or heat alarm is triggered by a fire, all interconnecting alarms activate with each CO alarm having a different sounder pattern for carbon monoxide and fire, supported by a variety of digital display messages on one model.
Both models in the new range are mains powered sealed-in, with rechargeable lithium cells for back-up, preventing tenant access.
Air is sampled every 15 seconds ensuring greater safety than longer sampling intervals.
