Suitable for use with rainscreen cladding systems, Knauf Insulation's Rocksilk RainScreen is easy to retro-fit and provides the benefits of mineral wool insulation.
Lightweight cladding panels are mounted on a framework fixed to the building's external walls to create a ventilated air space. Mineral wool insulation is suitable for use against walls and between timber or metal studs, providing consistent thermal performance. It can mould itself around imperfections on the surface of a wall.
The product has a thermal conductivity of 0.035W/mK and is non-combustible with Euroclass A1 fire classification assisting in reducing insurance premiums.
Designed for insulating protected membrane roofs, Knauf Insulation's Polyfoam Slimline System consists of a Polyfoam Roofboard beneath a vapour permeable, polyethylene separation membrane that reduces the 'rainwater cooling effect'.
Roofboard is suited for insulating green roofs and is made from Polyfoam Extruded Polystyrene (XPS). Its high compression strength, impact and moisture resistance provide a structural insulation solution.
Available in three grades, Standard, Extra and Super, they cater from light pedestrian traffic, green roofs, and high loads from vehicle movement. All have interlocking rebated edges in a 1250mm by 600mm size in a range of thicknesses.
Following a substantial investment in its production facility in Queensferry, North Wales, Knauf Insulation now offers a wider selection of pipe, slab and roll, mattress and lining products under its Crown glass mineral wool and Rocksilk rock mineral wool brands. Glass and rock mineral wool have good thermal, acoustic and fire-insulation properties. Of the two, glass mineral wool is the material of choice for HVAC insulation, whilst rock mineral wool is preferred for applications involving tougher operating conditions. Rock mineral wool is available in higher densities than glass and can therefore offer higher compressive strength and has better fire resistance properties. New fiberisation equipment at Knauf's plant has resulted in a material that is more consistent in both density and performance. To mark the changes, the company has rebranded the range from Rocksil to Rocksilk.
