An Aberdeen development by Malcolm Allan Housing recently benefited from the installation of Crown Rafter Roll 32 from Knauf Insulation which will thermally and acoustically insulate all the pitched roofing.
An unfaced semi-rigid roll of glass mineral wool, the product boasts extra high thermal performance, with a thermal conductivity of 0.032W/mk. It allows water vapour to pass freely through it, for building breathability, whilst effectively absorbing sound to the required levels.
It can be used as a single or double layer between rafters, or as the first layer of a two layer system. MA Housing has friction fitted its roofs with the product, filling the rafter spacing and eliminating air gaps.

One of the UK's leading manufacturers of insulation products has joined forces with Allan Roofing and a regeneration and renewal specialist to kit out one of Barratt Homes' latest developments.
Knauf Insulation was involved in the project to create over 300 residential units above the Blenheim Centre's Asda store in Hounslow. The company supplied its Polyfoam Slimline System, consisting of 6,000 mē of 120mm Polyfoam RoofboardExtra aand Polyfoam Slimline Membrane, for the thermal insulation of the centre's protected membrane flat roof.

Over 1800m of Knauf Insulation's Kalzip Roll was used to insulate a wing-like roof on the terminal building at Farnborough Airport, Hampshire.
Made from glass mineral wool, Kalzip Roll is said to be light, flexible, easy to handle, cut and install.
It is ideal for use within curved envelopes, in complex shapes and around fixings and services.
As part of a rainscreen cladding system for a development for Thames Valley University, Knauf Insulation's Rocksilk RainScreen Slab was supplied.
The product is a water repellant rock mineral wool slab designed to provide thermal insulation and fire protection when used in cladding applications including timber, terracotta and glass.
Its lightweight and rigid properties allow ease of fixing to the wall while its water repellance defends against rain penetrating the building's structure.
Energy Savings Trust recommended status has been provided to Knauf Insulation on its Polyfoam Supadeck, which has been designed to combine thermal insulation and decking for storage in pitched roof loft spaces.
To partial board lofts, in order to create more storage space, Polyfoam Supadeck offers a two-in-one XPS rigid board insulation that is designed to achieve the Building Regulations requirement for 0.16W/m?K u-value in loft insulation applications.
The thermal resistance of two layers of board is 3.60m?K/W. When used in conjunction with a chipboard facing, the solution is the equivalent of the current recommendation for 170mm of glass mineral wool to be laid above ceiling joists.

Polyfoam extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation from Knauf Insulation has been chosen for use with three Osma underfloor heating systems at the Eden Project's new education centre, The Core.
Some 700m of the company's Polyfoam Floorboard was specified for its compressive strength and thermal performance. Working alongside the Osma system it provides underfloor heating with minimal environmental impact.
Polyfoam Floorboard is suitable for unsulating floors, with or without underfloor heating.
Specified to insulate Chester Zoo's new Asian elephant house is Knauf Insulation's Rocksilk Universal Slab. The breeding centre is part of the zoo's campaign to protect the species. Rocksilk was used to assist in keeping the centre's environment hot and steamy. It is a semi-rigid slab of rock mineral wool designed for multi-purpose use in any type of construction.
Two new thicknesses to the Crown Rafter Roll 32 range of glass mineral wool insulation have been added by Knauf Insulation.
Crown Rafter Roll 32 is a glass mineral wool product with a low thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK. In roofs with 200mm deep rafters, a 170mm layer of Crown Rafter Roll 32 is required for 600mm centres, and only 185mm for 400mm centres.
Rolls are available in five thicknesses and the semi-rigidity of the product allows for a friction fit between the rafters. Along with low thermal conductivity, they feature good acoustic and fire insulation properties.
Used in combination with Knauf Breatherline, a vapour permeable underlay for use beneath tiles, the products are designed to provide a cost effective solution to creating a 'living loft'. The use of Breatheline overcomes the need for the ventilated space above the insulation.
A'Chrannag, Gaelic for 'Crow's Nest', part of Fyne Homes' new housing development and nominated for the RIBA Stirling Prize, has become one of Europe's most energy efficient housing projects, due in part to Crown Supafil Cavity Wall Insulation, claims Knauf Insulation. As a result of the company's insulation, the building's walls have an elemental uvalue of 0.10 W/mK. The product is a loose glass mineral wool insulation material that is injected in the cavity of the wall through 25mm holes. Once installed, it neither deteriorates nor settles with age and provides acoustic and fire insulation.
