Efficient control of light - Levolux Limited

Levolux Limited Efficient control of light The Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy in Bromley, Kent, features a series of solar shading Louvres from Levolux. Designed by architect Jestico & Whiles, the £26m flagship scheme was created in line with the Goverment's Academies programme. The Knights Academy forms part of a Federation of Academies that will share the same ethos, values and teaching styles. As the Academy features two innovative elevations - namely the Learning Curve and Think Tank - which are constructed using extensive glazing, the provision of solar shading was a crucial factor in its design. It required a simple, yet stylish exterior facade that would overcome potential solar heat gain. The company designed and installed a 400mm vertically-stacked and horizontal aluminium Fin system which, in effect, 'clad' the two facades and provides efficient control of light and solar heat gain. Due to the Learning Curve's sweeping shape, Levolux designed the 400mm Fins to fit to supporting steelwork which is cantilvered out from the building away from the face of the glass. They were vertically stacked over 17, 7.5m bays. For the Think Tank elevation, the 200mm Fins were fitted in projecting panels over 52 bays.
