Engineers were able to keep the main London to Bristol railway line operational during major repair work thanks to a new rock-fall catch fence and drapery system from Maccaferri.
Building Products magazine was told that an on-going maintenance and structural stability plan by contractors, Skyline Rope Access, identified an 8m long tension-crack behind a large sandstone block 2/3rd of the way up the 23m deep cutting.
Retaining wall specialists, Maccaferri have enabled the construction of apartment blocks on an undulating site in Monaghan town centre, Northern Ireland.
Instead of making an 18 metre deep cut into a hillside, Maccaferri proposed an alternative solution in which the bottom part of the wall would be built to a height of nine metres using segmental retaining walling. This would then be capped with a nine metre tall Maccaferri Terramesh reinforced earth system.
This solution greatly reduces build time, enabling construction of the apartments to begin much sooner.

Conforming to global stability criteria, a mesh and grid reinforced slope solution has been designed by Maccaferri for a Redrow Homes new development in Middlewood, Sheffield. The 123m long green Terramesh wall incorporating Enkagrid PRO polyester geogrid was used to stabilise the site prior to construction.
