Harnessing waste heat

Monodraught Ltd Harnessing waste heatDesigned to harvest the waste heat that rises to the top of large structures like sports halls and warehouses, Monodraught now offers the Heat Harvester. The units, which resemble mini jet engines, draw the heat that accumulates at the underside of roof level and thrusts it back down to the occupied areas. Suitable for ceiling heights of 5m and above, the Heat Harvester is 305mm diameter and weighs 4.5kg. Operating via a normal electricity supply, the company claims that it will cost less than 10p a day to run. It believes that, by harnessing this lost heat and energy, the Heat Harvester has the potential to reduce heating bills by between 30 and 50%.

Monodraught Ltd Natural ventilation Windcatcher Towers from Monodraught are becoming a familiar sight on many Schools and University buildings and are renowned for providing an energy free form of ?air conditioning?. Building on this success, the company has now introduced its Sola-boost system, winner of the ?Best Building Services Product? Award at this year?s lnterbuild. Initially launched at Nottingham University last December, the Sola-boost has a PV panel embedded in the capping of the Windcatcher system and this in turn powers a 230mm diameter fan enclosed within a central fan core to increase the ventilation rate by approximately 50%. Since it only uses solar power, it consumes no electricity whatsoever, as the fan assisted element of the Wind-catcher only works when the sun is shining. Futhermore, the company has introduced a PowerTrack integrator that increases the power of the fan by approximately 250% when the panel is under full sun. Under all other conditions the Windcatcher still operates in providing an exhaust for stale air as well as a constant supply of fresh air. The Sola-boost simply ?kicks in? in the height of summer to provide this considerable increase in the ventilation airflow rate when it is needed most, under full summer conditions.

Monodraught Ltd Sola-Vent from Monodraught won the prestigious Best Interior Product of the Show Award at Interbuild last month. The judges said, ?this well thought out product further develops the company?s SunPipe technology. It puts together in one good-looking element all the items needed for lighting and ventilation of a bathroom, simplifying the ventilation and specification process.? The Sola-Vent incorporates Monodraught?s SunPipe as well as solar driven extract. Two different sized Sola-Vents are available, one with the 230mm diameter SunPipe and one with the 300mm diameter SunPipe. There are also two types of ceiling fascia available both incorporating 50 Watt spotlights for night-time use. Monodraught also won the Best Building Services Product of the lnterbuild Show for their Sola-Boost system. This particular product was launched at Nottingham University last December and is the first product of its kind to give solar powered, fan driven input air, which is designed to complement the company?s Windcatcher range. The judges said: ?Although simple in concept, this submission demonstrates that by employing new technologies with innovation, a product can be developed that can be applied either commercially or domestically. It has the advantage of being able to respond directly to weather conditions and to be self powered by solar energy?
