Recent investment in specialist tooling enabled the window manufacturer to provide developers with the single glazed windows for the historically sensitive Lawton Hall in Cheshire, as an alternative from the double glazed factory-finished product that the Conservation range usually offers. Over 500 period windows and doors were produced over a 14 month delivery schedule for the project, which includes the conversion of Lawton Hall into luxury apartments, and also the supply of double glazed windows from the Conservation range for new build homes around the estate.

Conservation of safety

A commercial building in London has been fitted with Mumford and Wood's Conservation timber sash windows in a renovation project.
Several of the windows required adaption to increase their capacity to cope with smoke dispersal and meet the requirements of the Building Regulations Part B. An inward opening leaf in the sash window frame allowed for ventilation in the event of smoke build up in a fire. The windows are set on door hinges and open inwards to comply with the 1.5m? volume required by legislation.

Sliding and folding into action

A new collection of folding sliding doors from Mumford and Wood has been launched as an extension to the Contemporary range of doors and windows.
The doors start from a two-door minimum width of 1450mm up to a seven-door maximum width of 6050mm with an operating height of 2450mm. Available with a standard or flush threshold, the doors are internally folding.
Standard double glazed units are argon filled and achieve a minimum 1.1W/m?K u-value to meet current Part L of Building Regulations. A 1230 by 1430mm tilt turn window was tested in accordance with the current regulations and achieved a whole window u-value of 1.4W/m?K. This can be improved by incorporating 1.0W/m?K or 0.7W/m?K double glazed units to give overall u-values of 1.0W/m?K.
It is manufactured from laminated Larch with an Alu Clad alternative to satisfy traditional timber aesthetics internally.

Specified for an extension to a Church of England primary school in Andover are doors and windows from Mumford and Wood.

Conservation of sound and aesthetics

With current Building Regulations requiring higher acoustic standards in new builds and conversions, Mumford and Wood has developed acoustic variations for their range of windows, which have been independently tested to BSEN IOS-1: 1997 to achieve a sound reduction between 36dB and 38dB.
In the development of a former workhouse near London Stanstead Airport, the company's conservation sliding timber sash windows and doors were specified. Some 400 bespoke windows and doors, including heavy-duty pre-tensioned spiral spring-balanced sashes, were provided for the project.
Conservation casements are now fitted with a soft seal gasket that has resistance to air and sound. When combined with acoustic glass, a 38dB reduction is achieved.

Conversion products from Mumford and Wood have been specified for a workhouse renovation at an old hospital in Hertfordshire.
The conservation required over 400 bespoke windows and doors including pre-tensioned spiral spring-balanced sashes, casement windows, French doorsets and entrance doors as well as semi-circular headed frames.

Timber sash window manufacturer, Mumford and Wood, has replaced single glazed doors and windows at a mock-Georgian property in Middlesex with products from its Conservation range. These included sliding box sash windows, doors and casements. They combined 22mm wide ovolo glazing bars with double glazing and were compliant with Part L of the building regulations. Made to order with practical parameters, the large single doors to the rear elevation exceeded the maximum double glazed unit size. Consequently, the company?s technical team introduced raised and fielded panels to the base of the door for strength, stability and safety.

Sash windows and French doorsets for the renovation of an early Edwardian style villa have been supplied by Mumford & Wood from its Conservation range. The property, situated in Sidmouth, Devon, has taken eight years to complete with the final phase involving the addition of a two-storey extension to the rear of the property, providing a garden room and additional bedrooms. The original single glazed sash windows were retained but the planning authority stipulated that doors and windows to the new extension must be double glazed, to comply with the Building Regulations, and must match the original. Mumford & Wood?s Edwardian style vertical spring balance sliding sash windows with ovolo moulded glazing bars fulfilled the specification. Additionally, the French door sets also have 22mm ovolo moulded glazing bars.
