Work to turn an unstable sloping site in Poole, Dorset into a level area suitable for development has included the use of Secugrid geogrid products from Naue Geosynthetics.
Formerly a landfill site, the area measures some 350 x 150m. A 'cut and fill' operation was carried out to remove soil from the high part of the site, and placing it in the low section.
This demanded a solution for earth retention, which was provided by three examples from the firm's range. Spoil from the excavation at the rear of the site was used to create the correct level at the front. Some parts of the front of the site are now 5m higher than they once were, so a reinforced bank was needed.
The Naue Secugrid was selected because it was cost-effective in terms of purchase price and installation costs, and because it was capable of meeting the structural demands of the site.
Secugrid is a flat geogrid made from interlaced polymer bars, available in both uniaxial and biaxial orientations.

Construction of Sandhill Primary School in Barnsley has included products from Naue Geosynthetics for the foundation laying.
The company's Secugrid 40/40 Q6 was installed as the soil reinforcement element for a retaining wall, the infill material of which is lime stabilised soil. It is a flat geogrid manufactured from interlaced extruded PET or PP polymer bars.
Toulouse-Blagnac airstrip in France has Bentofix geosynthetic clay lines from Naue Geosynthetics. Preventing drainage water that is contaminated from polluting the ground water, the liners provided two geotextile layers to encapsulate a filling of natural sodium bentonite clay. In total some 40000m? of the product was installed with 24000m? of separation nonwoven Secutex 201 grk 3.
Situated close to the River Forth, the Black Devon landfill site restoration works has overcome the problem of precipitation percolation with the use of Bentofix BFG 5000 from Naue Geosynthetics. Ease of installation was a key reason for its specification, with up to 30,000m? of the material laid per week, allowing the project to be completed ahead of schedule. Bentofix BFG 5000 was laid using a spreader bar, excavator and two labourers. The weight of the material - 300g/m? - and the non-woven needle- punched geotextile on the topside of the product provided the puncture resistance necessary to cope with the cover materials used on the site. Suitable for use as a sealing barrier against liquids and gases in a variety of applications, Bentofix measures some 10mm thick. Its liners are typically made from polypropylene resin making them resistant to a range of chemicals such as diesel, fuel, oil and benzene.
Providing both water resistance and satisfactory drainage capability, Naue Geosynthetics waterproofing systems range has been chosen for an underground car park at a residential housing development in Castleknock, Dublin. Bentofix BFG500 was applied to the concrete surface, forming an impervious membrane once activated by water.
