Announcing the launch of a new range of heat-treated timber products, Palgrave Brown said the introduction of Plato Wood would enable housebuilders to 'gain EcoHome points. It said the range can boast a reduced environmental impact. The product is a thermo-modified timber that combines 'durability, stability and aesthetics. The range is 'A' rated in the BRE's Green Guide to Housing Specification. The specifics of the product line include cladding, decking and structural timbers. "In line with Palgrave Brown's policy of helping housebuilder comply with environmental legislation, Plato Wood ticks all the boxes for sustainable timber solutions," explains Andy Warren, a key account manager at the company. "It offers a range of practical options to make earning EcoHomes points straightforward," he added.

Engineered timber specialist, Palgrave Brown, is meeting growing demand for open web flooring systems with its latest investment in two specialist manufacturing sites within its national network. Two new Mitek Posi Strut Runner machines have now been installed at the company's Yeovil and Widnes branches to boost production capacity. The Posi-Joist system combines timber and Posi Strut steel web that allows for a span of greater distances while allowing a variety of internal room layouts within an external shell. Its open web design also provides concealed piping for contractors, without the need for sawing gaps, as in traditional flooring methods.The design, size and flexibility of the system means that it can also be used to span flat and pitched roofs.

Security was of paramount importance when Palgrave Brown designed and manufactured roof trusses for a new, 80 bed, medium secure mental health hospital in Blackberry Hill, Bristol. The company?s design team produced trusses with spans of up to 13m and a pitch of 22 degrees. These were compatible with the hospital?s complex roof design, which featured a number of wards all joining a central corridor and therapy block. The trusses also met the specific security requirements of the hospital.
