Martin Renshaw, of the University, said: 'We needed to ensure the building offered a high standard of accommodation, as it would be on site for three years. For some undergraduates it would be their base for their entire degree course. The Ultima building provides a high quality working environment and enabled us to create the large open-plan, column-free space we needed.'

Savings in carbon emissions have been achieved by the Portakabin Group following the implementation of an energy saving and environmental programme across its business. The group has seen a 17% year on year reduction in carbon emissions, decreasing by 643 tonnes. A modular building from Portakabin is being used to market a residential and commercial development that will demonstrate how historic buildings can be revitalised by combining them with contemporary architecture. The company provided a complete design, build and installation service, specified to reflect the scale and ambition of the Quartermile project, built on the site of the former Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. The building will remain on site until the development is complete, which could take up to seven years.

When Duddingston Golf Club in Edinburgh needed to find temporary facilities for its members during a remodelling of its clubhouse, the club turned to Portakabin. The club hired a range of buildings to provide changing and toilet facilities, a members lounge, kitchen, dining area, a pro shop and office, as well as storage space.
