Roof safety is ensured

Roof safety is ensuredSafe roof access at Frimley Park Hospital has been ensured thanks to systems from Safesite. The recent work has involved the installation of System 2000 as part of a ward extension in addition to the removal and replacement of previously installed systems whilst re-roofing work was being carried out. System 2000 is a BBA approved cantilever guardrail system providing the ideal solution for where regular access is required. The guardrail's freestanding design means that it does not need to be mechanically fixed to the roof. This design overcomes the risk of damage to the roof's membrane. System 2000 also has the benefit of being easy to remove when re-roofing work is required.

Keeping on top of safety

Keeping on top of safetySafesite's BBA approved System 2000 roof edge protection system has been installed at Winsford Cross Shopping Centre in Cheshire to provide a permanent roof safety solution for the project. The centre was designed to reflect the town's historic link with the river. It features a glass canopy plus a glass shelter around the main shopping area. The roof required frequent access for maintenance of plant and cleaning. Safesite's System 2000 cantilever guardrail provided the solution, with a flexible design meaning it could cater for the centre's unique design. The freestanding system also prevents access to areas containing fragile materials.

Higher level qualification

Higher level qualificationSafesite has helped Aston University's estates and facilities department ensure that staff working at height can be rescued effectively in the event of a fall. Safesite has provided rescue equipment as well as training for all those responsible for, and carrying out work at height. Training was held on site at the university, including an overview of work at height statistics and legislation, rescue risk assessments and policies, and practical use of the rescue kit. During the practical sessions, delegates learnt how to inspect, wear and adjust a harness, and then built up their knowledge of how to use the kit by lifting weights, themselves, and finally colleagues using the equipment. Once confident, they then moved to the roof itself, where a risk assessment was undertaken, prior to delegates rescuing a dummy. The firm also provided a generic risk assessment.

An education in roof safety

An education in roof safetySafesite has installed a comprehensive roof safety system for Southwark College in order to allow safe maintenance of plant and machinery situated at the College's Waterloo and Bermondsey Campuses. As with many buildings, plant and machinery such as air conditioning units are housed on the College's roof which means that regular access is required for maintenance or repair of the equipment. Following a survey and assessment of the roof areas by Safesite, vertical access ladders have been installed to allow safe access to the different roof areas, while Safesite's System 2000 freestanding guardrail has been installed to provide edge protection on the roofs themselves and to prevent access to areas which contain fragile materials such as rooflights. Safesite's BBA Approved System 2000 freestanding guardrail provided the ideal solution as it enables edge protection without the need to mechanically fix the protection system to the roof itself.
