Echouse is on

Sandtoft Roof Tiles Echouse is on When Dundee City Council's Architectural Services department wanted to create a demonstration house to showcase sustainability in building, they called on Sandtoft to provide the roof tiles. The house itself is an existing caretaker's house from the 1960s at Whitfield Primary School that features all the poor detailing, cold bridging and poor thermal performance of buildings from that period. The council plans to refurbish the building to show how current building stock can be improved to meet new environmental challenges. The house will feature a wind turbine, geothermal underfloor heating which will draw on 90m boreholes to draw heat from the earth, a timber frame complete with insulation made from recycled newspaper and organic paints. Sandtoft will be supplying its Cassius roof tiles, which architects chose due to the sustainable way the company operates. The tiles are made from alluvial Humber clay, and will help designers meet the specification to replace the existing flat roof with a pitched roof made from natural materials.

Clay tiles substitute slate

Sandtoft Roof Tiles Clay tiles substitute slateCassius, the large format natural clay roof tile from Sandtoft Roof Tiles has been selected by the Gladedale Group for a house development in Westhoughton, near Bolton. According to the manufacturer, its Antique Slate colour-option offers a superior finish when compared with slate effect concrete and fibre-cement products, whilst providing a much more economical option than natural slate. The development incorporates a large number of four bedroom houses, on which the architect intended to use slate, but Cassius provided a lightweight alternative. Alan Drysdale, from the Gladedale Group, said: 'Cassius offered a more cost-effective roofing solution than slate, but we were still able to use a natural material that really looked the part. The tiles were very quick and easy to install, and the fixing process ran very smoothly. The finish and colouring are perfect for the development and the completed scheme looks fantastic.'

History resurrected with hand made tiles

Sandtoft Roof Tiles History resurrected with hand made tilesRe-roofing at the Boston Guildhall in Lincolnshire has been achieved using hand-made tiles from Sandtoft. Built in 1390, the guildhall has been in constant use since its construction. The property has played a significant part in the history of the town, including the trial of the Pilgrim Fathers in September 1607. Working with conservation architects, a replica roof was created by manufacturing hand-made copies of the traditional roof tiles. Made and constructed over a three month duration, in excess of 18,000 bespoke clay plain tiles were produced in three different sizes to fit the original style and aesthetic of the roof.

Arts and Crafts refurbishment

Sandtoft Roof Tiles Arts and Crafts refurbishmentPantiles from Sandtoft's Arcadia range have been used on a refurbishment scheme at an Arts and Crafts Centre in Barton-upon-Humber. The products were specified for their appearance of an original pantile roof. More than 40,000 tiles were installed by Byron Roofing, in addition to nine miles of roofing battens. The product was supplied in the colour of an aged, reclaimed product, without the problems associated with sourcing second-hand materials. A random weathered effect provided by the range of products makes it suitable for applications where a traditional aesthetic is required, for example on barn conversions or to complement reclaimed brick.
