Dualframe casement windows

Sapa Building Systems Dualframe casement windowsOpening up a vista of breathtaking views was the main priority for an award winning project that features Sapa Building Systems' Dualframe casement windows. The project, 'Uplands,' near Newmarket in Suffolk, won the 'Home Award' category in the last RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Architectural Awards for architects Freeland Rees Roberts. Set in a picturesque backdrop of oak trees and apple orchards, the private house is described as contemporary in design but built to blend in with its surroundings using traditional materials. Sapa say the clients are timber enthusiasts and, accordingly, the use of oak throughout the building was key to the projects aesthetics.

Sapa Building Systems Curtain walling from Sapa Building Systems reaching 14 metres high has created a dramatic impact at a Belgian business park. The architects for the project wanted to emphasise the horizontal lines of the curtain walling facade and plumped for the HL (Horizonyal Lining) option of the Elegance 52 curtain walling system. The variation is one of six options that Elegance 52 offers whereby the vertical mullion capping is replaced by a hidden profile that sits behind a discreet finishing gasket. The overall effect emphasises and draws the eye to the horizontal lines of the facade which appears to come to the fore and so create a striking impact along the building. Stability was achieved by fixing the system to steel.

The Village, which is a development of private and social housing alongside commercial buildings, makes use of Dorset materials such as stone, slate and render as well as using recycled material. On the external face of the system the windows were powder coated in Gypsum Bronze, which complements the light colour render finish of the building, whilst conventional white was used on the internal faces. Frame inserts were incorporated into the windows of the system to achieve aesthetically pleasing sightlines for the glazing, whilst the slim frames still allowed natural light into the building.

The company provided a semi-active curtain wall which consists of double glazing on the outside with a blind on the inside which operates automatically according to the amount of sunlight. It reduces energy consumption by offering a suitable climate inside the building. Replacing the total existing sandwich panel construction with a 350mm wide single extrusion profile was possible due to the extrusion capabilities of the company. The fa?ade elements were factory-assembled which ensured that once it reached the site, it could be installed quickly.
