A semi-transparent mirror made from the metamorphis glass "Mirona" from Schott has been fitted to the tables in a BMW conference room.
A total of 40 mē of Mirona was installed at the front of the tables, and conference monitors hidden behind. The mirror is covered in an extremely thin, titanium oxide coating. In front of a dark surface, the mineral glass acts as a mirror, however once the monitor is turned on, the glass provides a clear view of the screen.
The ?59 million construction project known as AMPPS, (Astronomy, Mathematics, Physics and Photon Sciences) at Manchester University includes the UK's largest solar shading array using thin film technology.
Schott Solar ASI Glass semi-transparent photovoltaic panels, which convert daylight into electricity, have been fitted onto the roof to help make the building carbon friendly. The building also incorporates a canopy spanning three component structures featuring a 'rack' mounted louvre photovoltaic system to provide shade.
Designed to change colours in different environments, the Farb Effect dichroic glass range has been developed by Schott. The colour of the glass will vary depending on the intensity of natural light, the angle of view and the background. This effect is achieved by the application of selective metal oxide coatings to a range of base glasses. Light is reflected from the junction of these layers to different intensities, the reflection increasing as the refractive indices of the layers are further apart. The dichroic glass is featured in the Nord/LB building in Hanover. Here, large panes of Farb Effect glass are installed at the top of the high rise building to add interest. Depending on the viewing angle and where the light is coming from, the colours of the glass appear in the corporate colours of Nord/LB, ranging between blue and gold.
Watsons Glass in Wolverhampton has been appointed to distribute and install the new clear Pyranova fire resistant glass from Schott through the Midlands. The new Pyranova product offers up to 60 minutes insulation and integrity in large panel sizes for timber or steel framing systems. Suitable for interior and exterior applications such as cladding, fire doors, screens and partitions, the product is a multiply laminate of 3mm thick soda lime float glass and intumescent layers.
