Holder of a Royal Warrant, Selectaglaze, has unveiled a new permanent display at The Building Centre in central London .
Established in 1966, the company claims to the UK's leading designer, manufacturer and installer of secondary glazing systems.
The display features a selection of working units Horizontal and Vertical Sliding systems and a Hinged Casement, together with a photo gallery. An interactive display of the company's history and its products is a new feature.
In order to reduce heat loss which can result from single glass, secondary glazing is offered by Selectaglaze. A fully independent purpose-made window, fitted to the room side, traps an insulating layer of air and efficient seals to the perimeter frame and opening panels.
Noise insulation is achieved by increasing the space between the inner and outer glass to between 100mm and 150mm, producing up to 40dB in noise reduction. Resistance to blast, physical attack, ballistic attack and fire are also offered with the company's units.
In order to produce a glazing system which prevented external sound but maintained clear sight lines at Birmingham's renovated Town Hall, Selectaglaze provided a 4.5m by 1.8m version of their Series 50 side hung casement unit. They also manufactured a 8m high version as well.
The secondary glazing units offer sound and thermal insulation in line with Part L of the Building Regulations. Changes to the original Series 50 unit included the modification of the locking mechanism so that the unit could be closed by a single handle operated near the base of the window.
A suite of security windows is also offered, providing protection against blasts or attacks.

A secondary glazing system from Selectaglaze has passed a 30 minute integrity fire test to BSEN 1364-1: 1997 and BSEEN1363-1:1999.
The company's Fire Retardant Series 40 Fixed Light unit incorporates Pilkington's new PyrodurTM glass in conjunction with fire grade mastics and intumescent seals that expand when hot to form a barrier against hot gases.
For Battersea Dogs and Cats Home's exercise runs, Selectaglaze installed several large panels from its Series 10 and 45 ranges to sit between grilles and runs.
The installation incorporated both fixed and horizontal sliding units for air management and steel mesh for permanent ventilation. In total 282 units were installed over the two phases of the initiative.
In order to meet Building Regulations, Selectaglaze has developed a range of secondary units which will accommodate Part L compliant sealed units with measured U-values.
A double glazed secondary glazing system was installed at Cambridge University's Department of Biochemistry. With solar heat control and thermal insulation required, a 4mm clear toughened planitherm and 4mm clear toughened safety glass were installed to meet the specification. Additionally, 25mm slat Venetian blinds were sited in the cavity, remotely operated by control knobs mounted in the perimeter frame, to prevent solar heat gain. Acoustic insulation is also achieved.
The systems are purpose made and are appropriate for staged refurbishment or upgrade plans. Windows are constructed from aluminium sections with paint or anodised finishes.
