The Heritage Services section of Bath & North East Somerset Council has specified Sill lighting at the Roman Baths in the city of Bath. Heritage Services managers needed to replace expired lighting and to conserve energy while at the same time improving interpretation and making a visit to the site a more dynamic experience.
Designers at Sill used the company’s 020 series projectors, which are compact in size and can be used to produce different optical distributions.
A new exterior secondary reflector system has been launched by Sill Lighting. The 545 Fumay system comprises a column-mounted compact Sill 421 series projector with a 150W HIT Powerball lamp projecting light onto a batwing distribution 545 series secondary reflector for glare-free lighting.
Made in diecast aluminium throughout, it uses the company's high performance optics for light protection onto the secondary reflector. An asymmetrically ribbed aluminium reflector creates a controlled batwing distribution with minimal glare.
As an IP68 rated luminaire, the Pracht Tubis from Sill Lighting is completely waterproof and is designed for a number of applications.
The Tubis luminaires have a 90mm diameter tubular housing which can be specified either in impact resistant clear polycarbonate, impact resistant opalised PMMA Prachtopal, or acid and alkali resistant clear glass. This is designed to contain single, twin, or triple lamp T5 or T8 fluorescent fittings in 14W to 58W versions.
Fluorescent luminaires are versatile in their application, and as with other Pracht fittings they are waterproof, dust proof and chemical proof.
The fittings are designed for surface mounting using variable mounting points with the company's stainless steel tube clips. There is also a facility for through wiring so that luminaires can be butted together for continuous light.
Designed for recessing into ceilings, canopies or soffits, the new Gimbal fitting completes the interior and exterior mounting options available from Sill Lighting's 02 series range.
The two sizes of Gimbal 02 series projectors - 70W metal halide and 250W - are mounted in either a Gimbal ring or a square Gimbal frame. Rated IP67, it can be used inside or outside a building.
Half the size of its 453 series City Liter, Sill Lighting has introduced the Mini City Liter. With luminaire body dimensions of only 326mm by 196mm by 75mm, the diecast aluminium product comes in 20W, 35W and 70W metal halide versions with batwing or asymmetric reflectors.
As part of its product development programme, Sill Lighting has advanced and expanded its Discus range of LED projectors.
Sharing its design with the 020 series power projector, the low profile projector comes in three sizes and is available in both RGB and monochrome outputs.
The Discus 040 has a 173mm diameter for up to 21W, the 041 has a 271mm diameter for up to 36W, and the 042 projector for major projects has a diameter of 428mm. The company has concentrated on thermal engineering of the LED product to improve longevity.
Bespoke fittings for special projects are included in the range, such as the Marker Light. The company also has the 020 RGB-IR track mounted, colour change fittings, which are controlled by handsets.
Specified for Norwich Cathedral Visitor Centre, 36 of Sill's 021 series narrow beam projectors have been used to uplight the nine pairs of oak columns in the refectory. Recessed in timber ceilings, 50 of its 769 series luminaries were also specified to provide downlighting. The company was specified for its simple designs that were suitable for the historic setting.
Involved in yet another award winning lighting project, Sill Lighting contributed over 70 of its fittings to help illuminate Coventry's Historical Quarter. Winner of the heritage category at this year's Lighting Design Award, the project was part of a city enhancement programme.
Buried uplighters from Sill Lighting are playing a key role in illuminating the plaza area of 30 At Mary Axe, winner of the 2004 Stirling Prize. Over 50 of Sill?s 480 series buried uplighters illuminate the ?A? frame columns around the perimeter of the building, which is a major element of the plaza lighting scheme. As well as illuminating the covered arcade, the uplit structure provides reflected light to the area around the building. This contributes to the lighting concept for the plaza, which was to avoid cluttering the space with light columns. The fittings were specified as the scheme required a shallow recess fitting with adjustable optics that could take a range of reeded glass and louvre accessories. This was essential to overcome restrictions of the mounting positions for the buried uplights in relation to the columns which were caused by building structure constraints, both above and below ground. The customised fittings use 35W CDM-T lamps and have a blue trim for decorative effect in the ground.
