Backbone for landlords gets installed at 1 fifty - Tyco Thermal Controls |
Pyrotenax mineral-insulated (MI) cables have been installed for fire-rated applications in the striking new 19,000m2 landmark office development at 1fifty Cheapside, overlooking St Pauls Cathedral. Specified by Hilson Moran and installed by Haden Young as the backbone system for landlord services in the shell and core, Pyro MI is being employed in circuits for both life safety and fire fighting rated applications, as defined in BS7346-6 Specification for Cable Systems.
MI is recognised as the highest performing fire-rated cable technology and the Pyro MI cable has undergone Lloyds Register witness testing under the most stringent fire test methodology of BS 7346-6:2005 and successfully achieved the highest performance requirement of 120 minutes survival time for fire fighting systems. This ensures that it comes with an assurance for those responsible for cable specification and purchase that they are meeting the requirements of the Regulatory Reform Order (RRO) in regard to the material supply.

Tyco Thermal Controls are being installed throughout the Shanghai World Financial Centre. - Tyco Thermal Controls |
TraceTek water leak detection systems from Tyco Thermal Controls are being installed throughout the Shanghai World Financial Centre - one of the world's tallest buildings. To prevent disruption to business continuity, water sensing cables are being located in all sensitive environments such as the building's data centres and computer rooms.
The TraceTek sensor cable systems offer high-integrity leak detection and precise location, provided by distributed rather than single point sensing. Said to be easy to install, it is supported by a digital communication network for building management systems.

Extinguishing competition - Tyco Thermal Controls |
A fire-resistant version of the AA100 curtain walling system by Kawneer has been launched.
The AA100 Firescreen has been tested to both UK and European fire standards by the Warrington Fire Research Centre to BS 476-22 using Pyrostop glass at 1.4 by 2.2m. It was certified fire resistant with 30 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation.
Suitable for vertical applications including facetted walls, the dry-jointed Firescreen version removes the installers reliance on on-site sealing, and ensures performance in all weather conditions.

Art of control - Tyco Thermal Controls |
Cables from Tyco Thermal Controls have been installed at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum as part of the New Century Project. In all more than 23km of MultiPlus LSF cable and 14km of Pyro S fire-rated cables were supplied.
MutiPlus LSF is a lightweight cable system with small size armoured cables. It has a Low Smoke and Fume outer sheath for fire performance and is rated at 600/1000V, with an aluminium screen that reduces electrical interference to meet EMC requirements. Pyro S meets the requirements set out in the revision of BS5839-1:2002.

No snowmen at car park - Tyco Thermal Controls |
Raychem electric ramp heating systems from Tyco Thermal Controls have been installed in a new 1000 space, four storey car park in Walsall. Over 1500 metres of Raychem heating cables have been installed to prevent ice formation or snow accumulation on the car park's exposed top spiral vehicle ramp and a pedestrian walkway for shoppers.
Whenever the ambient temperature falls below 3°c and moisture is also detected by the ramp surface sensors, these cables power up and deliver the heat required to keep the surface free of snow and ice. Ramp heating can be used to prevent frost damage.
