That old sweet chestnut

Vincent Timber Ltd That old sweet chestnutVincent Timber has added European 'Sweet Chestnut' to its fast expanding range of cladding options. The company cited it as 'durable as Oak and offering many of the benefits attributed to traditional hardwood'. The product has already been extensively used on the Lighthouse (pictured), the Zero Carbon house at the BRE & Innovations Park. When left untreated, Sweet Chestnut will mature to a silvery texture, making it an ideal cladding option for architects looking for longevity. It is also around 20% lighter than Oak.

Cod stock no longer under threat

Vincent Timber Ltd Cod stock no longer under threatCape Cod timber cladding, designed to provide the New England look, has now received full FSC certification. It completes a wide range offered by Vincent Timber, which believes it can now offer the largest choice of certified timber cladding products in the country. While Cape Cod, produced from Canadian Lodgepole Pine, has always been sourced from sustainable managed forests, it did not, until now, carry the FSC certificate to seal its environmental credentials. Vincent Timber say that the product has already proved a success in the UK, with sales in 2006 already up by 40% year on year. Cape Cod continues to be specified for housing developments across sounthern England in particular. "FSC certification for Cape Cod means that we can supply all our cladding products to the same high level of sustainability," said John Vincent, chairman of Vincent Timber. The company now offers a range of hardwood products together with its established offering which includes Red Cedar, Larch, Thermowood and Silverwood Natur.

More textured

Vincent Timber Ltd More texturedIntroduced to satisfy the demand for a more textured look, Vincent Timber is now supplying a new range of Shakes. Imported from Canada, the Western Red Cedar Shingles offer aesthetic charm as well as offering insulation properties with a light weight. The thermal conductivity is the lowest of any roofing material, the company claims, making for a warm roof. All kiln dried and treated, the shingles and shakes should be installed using stainless steel nails.

Some 3000m² of its Red Cedar Shingles were specified for Royal Holloway College in preference to Green Oak Cladding. This, the company claims, was due to its aesthetics and performance when hung vertically as well as its reduced cost.
